Looks like Jon Lester is getting the start tomorrow. He has garnered more fan fare in The Red Sox Nation coming through the system than Papelbon. AL East get used to it....for many years, you will be seeing Papelbon, Beckett, Lester and Hansen as the closer. If they live up to that dreaded 'P' word, they will be tough for a LONG time to come.

Hanson is being groomed as a starter.
Papelbon will be locked in at the closer role for the next 10 years unless something changes.
Why would you look at ANYONE else to close right now or for the next 10 years?
They said Wakefield is having back issues and if he only goes a few innings, Hanson will come in to pitch 4 or 5.
I think they have reversed roles and you will see Hanson as the future "Starter"!

Wayne, obviously, it is difficult to argue with what you say Francona said but perhaps he and Theo should chat as I heard Theo on WEEI last Wednesday (10 days ago) and he said they were still grooming Hansen for the stopper role and they would move Papelbon back to being a starter next year. They were talking on the radio earlier about how they are trying to build Hanson's arm strength up to go more innings with each appearance.
It's nothing against you but i can't even believe people would suggest doing anything except making him the permanent closer. Starters are out there every year but a dominating closer at his age is not easily available.Comment

Like I said, I don't disagree with you. But a dominating starter at his age is not easily avail either. I see both sides of this coin...I can understand, if Hansen is as good as advertised, you could give it a shot with Hansen as closer. But certainly you cannot argue with keeping him in the closer role either.

And my point is, he's NEVER been a dominant starter. Yes, he has had limited chances starting BUT he grabbed the ball as a closer and NEVER looked back from day 1. It to me is what he is and the mentality of a closer is rare. He has proven he has it.Originally posted by Three JackComment
