      NBA Finals

Mavericks won 103-90 at Maimi Nov 25 (+1), then Dallas waxed the Heat 112-76 (-4.5) Feb 9, in team's only meetings this season. Remember, Finals go 2-3-2, starting and ending here. We know the Western Conference is much stronger than east, but Riley's titles and six appearances in Finals have to rate edge over Mavs' young mentor Johnson, who has made Dallas a better team, but this is a whole new thing. Key to first game will be how Miami is going to defend Nowitzki, who was awesome at home vs Suns in western finals. Dallas will use lot of fouls in post against Shaq

        Six-Pack for Thursday
-- 9,222 was the announced crowd in Lexington for return of Roger Clemens Tuesday; Legends drew 6,660 for game on Wednesday. Devil Rays drew 9,517 for day game with the Angels Wednesday. You can see why owning minor league team is very profitable- they're not paying salaries.
-- I liked Bernie Brewer's act better at old County Stadium, when he slid down his chute into a huge mug of beer, after any Milwaukee home run. At Miller Park, no beer mug, just a landing; why is this? Isn't Miller a brewery?
-- Playing the under still rules on Monday night, under is 59-45-5 on Mondays so far this year.
-- Kansas City Royals drafted Bradley Boxberger in Round 20 Wednesday. This guy just has to make it, so we can have Bradley Boxberger Bobblehead Night.
-- Was in memorabilia store today in local ****; these are the prices listed for signed miniature football helmets: Gale Sayers, $100; Chad Pennington, $110; Jim Kelly, $130; Troy Aikman, $180; Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, $230; Brett Favre, $250; Tom Brady, $330.
-- Nomar Garciaparra is 21 for his last 31 in at bats from the seventh inning on.

Thursday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but............
          13) If every active major leaguer (750+ guys) kicked in $2,000 apiece (chump change for 99% of them), and contributed it to the fund for aging ballplayers (BAT), that's $1.5M a year they could raise to help support the people who helped build the sport to what it is today. You'd think the union would take care of something like this.

          12) At one point last month, Padre pitcher Chan Ho Park had eight hits in span of 10 AB's.

          11) The great Bill Murray owns a part of the St Paul Saints of the Northern League.

          10) After tonight's Bronx-Boston game, the teams don't meet again for ten weeks.

          9) Surprisingly, Boston has only eight players left from their 2004 team that won the World Series.

          8) Even more surprising is that the Red Sox have not led the AL in fielding since 1950, but they might do it this season.

          7) Texas Rangers have already used 19 pitchers this season.

          6) Florida Marlins have already used eighteen different rookies this season.

          5) Atlanta manager Bobby Cox has been thrown out of 121 different games in his career.

          4) Astros-Twins normally would be drab interleague fare, but June 22 will be Roger Clemens' '06 debut; hopefully, Astros can get sellout on a Thursday night.

          3) Colorado has never finished ahead of the Dodgers in the NL West standings. The year the Rockies won the Wild Card, LA won the division.

          2) Padres were batting .253 as team through Monday's game, but just .228 at Petco Park, where spacious dimensions play with the batters' heads, even though it is their home park.

          1) Three of the top four active pitchers, in terms of winning percentage, are Pedro Martinez, Tim Hudson, Roy Oswalt, three slightly built righthanded pitchers, just the type of guy 95% of scouts downgrade in their ratings. Go figure.
