-- Vin Scully asked Dodger owner LaCourt to put players' names on backs of uniforms next season, so in 2007, names will be back on their uniforms. Vin Scully has clout.

      Other baseball notes from Tuesday……….
-- The average salary on Opening Day this year was $2.63M. -- Baseball draft is only one that happens during the season. -- The teams with small payrolls better spend lot of money on scouting and development, especially in foreign markets; how else can they make up the gap the money teams have?
-- Another reason Barry Bonds won't be a Giant next year; San Francisco hosts the All-Star Game, so they don't need him to sell tickets; that, and the fact that he just can't play the field anymore. Its tough to watch him try.
-- Dodgers have had spring training in Vero Beach FL since 1948, but Arizona is trying hard to pry them away from Florida, and the Dodgers are listening.
-- Georgia played Georgia Tech in baseball game at Turner Field, and they sold 26,755 tickets; Devil Rays drew 9,400+ for a home game with Angels Monday.
-- Red Sox offered Mark Teixeira $1.5M bonus coming out of high school, but he turned them down, went to Georgia Tech and things worked out well for him. On the other hand……..
-- ……. there is a flip side of having a greedy scumweasel as your agent. Matt Harrington was 7th pick in entire '00 draft; he turned down $4.2M from the Rockies; the next year, he turned down $2.8M, then $1M the next; he was drafted again in '03 and '04, while playing for an independent team in Texas, but he hasn't pitched well there, and now will probably never play organized baseball.

Scott Boras was his agent during most of this drama. Figures.
