      Six-Pack for Sunday
-- Mavericks-Heat final is first time since '71 that two teams in Finals are there for first time (Bullets-Bucks).
-- Pirates had ceremony for '71 World Series team on Friday but it rained throughout, then they lost 7-0. Umpires made sure game got in, though, with ton of tickets sold. Seems like the Bucs could use some good luck.
-- Chicago Rush are in Arena Bowl, despite playing eight of last ten games on road, including all three playoff games. Rush are owned partially by Mike Ditka.
-- Listening to Sacramento Kings' press conference for the hiring of Eric Musselman, you'd think they hired Pat Riley, Phil Jackson or Chuck Daly. They'll miss Rick Adelman.
-- Nebraska was biggest bust of college baseball tourney, losing home games to Manhattan, San Francisco, despite being #6 seed in whole country.
-- Bad weekend for Cardinals; Pujols hurts his oblique-that is usually a DL-type injury and Mulder gets hit hard, for third start in row. Luckily, rest of NL Central is even worse.

Sunday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but...............
        13) Remember a phrase "strong defensively up the middle"? This was how winning baseball teams are put together, but now, with young Ivy Leaguers running more and more big league clubs, interior defense has gone the way of twinbills and organ music.

Now Ty Wigginton plays second base because they need his bat, even though he has defensive range of a postage stamp. Mike Piazza is still employed as catcher, even though he can't throw; both these guys need to be playing first base, in order for better defensive players to man positions in middle of the field.

        12) A veteran of Iraq War is suing filmmaker Michael Moore for $85 million, for using clips of him without authorization in Moore's movie Fahrenheit 911, and twisting them to make the soldier appear anti-war. Solider lost both his arms in accident, but is still quite patriotic; I hope he collects every penny.

        11) This spelling bee thing is legalized child abuse; I was an English major in college, and never heard of these words. Teach the kids to play golf, or make them go outside and get some exercise, or do something fun. Seriously.

        10) Edmonton Oiler goalie Dwayne Roloson was let go by Minnesota Wild, who thought they had two better goalies; now he's in Stanley Cup finals, with the smallest market team in league. Good for him. Bad for Minnesota.

        9) NHL either needs to get back on ESPN, or find some way to make OLN easier to find; the parity they're going to have is great for the sport, but it needs to be seen by casual fans. Imagine how great baseball would be if the smallest market team could be contender every year?

        8) Eli Manning better stay healthy; Rob Johnson's last TD pass in NFL was 2.5 years ago, now he is Giants' backup QB, and doesn't seem all that eager to play "If they need me to win a game or two……" Johnson has only started 29 NFL games, but because he played at USC, seems like he's been around longer.

        7) Didn't think the Shaun King era in Detroit was going to be too long; Martz Madness has no need for mobile QB's, just accurate passers. King is mobile, not accurate, but he lead Tulane to a 12-0 season that seems like it was eons ago.

        6) Maybe King can land in Cleveland, where the Browns are sorely lacking for backup to second-year QB Frye. Not like Frye is Brian Sipe or anything yet, but happens if he gets hurt? Ken Dorsey?

        5) ESPN has apparently broken up their Saturday morning college football pregame show team, with Kirk Herbstreit now working Saturday night games for ESPN, and Chris Fowler doing play-by-play on Thursday nights. If true, that's too bad, unless ESPN plans to do its pregame show from site that Herbstreit is working each week.

        4) Dan Fouts never played in a Super Bowl, and Don Coryell has never coached in one, although his offensive principles have, but it is too bad that neither of those guys got their day on football's biggest stage.

        3) Someone please explain to me why the Cubs traded for Phil Nevin. What does he do when Derrick Lee comes back?

        2) So the Royals fired their GM, who turned a once-proud franchise into a nursing home of major league careers (Mientkiewicz, Stairs, Grudzelainek, Sanders and one of the worst pitching staffs ever assembled). They hired a John Schuerholz disciple as GM, a 38-year old; what they need is Schuerholz himself back in town, plus a filthy-rich owner who will infuse some cash (hope) into this depressed franchise.

        1) Current fad is for 20-ish, 30-ish types to run franchises, a la Theo Epstein. The young nitwits running Tampa Bay's franchise obviously weren't taught at Harvard that you need guys in centerfield who can catch fly balls and still hit over .200. Maybe they should have attended a state university for such precious knowledge.

          2006 Arena Football games
          Playoffs, Semi-finals

Dallas won seven of last eight games, drilling Georgia last week, 62-27, coming back strong after bye week; they crushed Preds in Week 8 road game, 87-62 (-3). Desperadoes are 11-0 this year if they allow less than 50 points. Orlando struggled to 31-27 home win last week, just their second win in last four games; they won three of their last four road games.

I sure have missed you guys and I hope all is well with all of you. I did drop by from time to time but didnt really have anything to offer and didnt have much time but I did want to make sure my friends here were all still around. In any case it's always good to see and here from you. Take care my friend and as always good luck!! GR8
