Well, the Sabres bit the dust yesterday. I'm convinced I had the right side - Buffalo definitely wins that game more than 39 times out of 100. Oh well. I tried to bet Carolina when Buffalo has a 2-1 lead through two periods, but I couldn't get it in.
I've won two fictional plays of the day, both dogs, so I'm going to have a baseball POD again today. It's a total, actually.
Baseball Play of the Day (26-28, +1.59*)
Blue Jays @ Devil Rays Under 10 (-101)
My numbers tell me this total should be around 9 or even 8.5. Most importantly is the fact that "Cy Young" McClung is pitching at home for the Rays, where he has been very good, with an ERA of 3.55.
Janssen has been a stud, with a 3.27 ERA and a WHIP of under 1 (only four starters have WHIPs under 1). His last five starts have seen compile a 2.38 ERA and a 0.7 WHIP.
Both of these teams hit lefties better than righties. These pitchers have met twice this year - once in Toronto, a 6-4 Tor win, and once in TB, a 4-1 TB win.
Good luck guys. Here are my numbers/thoughts on all the games (value plays in bold):
Padres 4.78, Pirates 4.95
Giants 3.39, Mets 4.99 - but, the Mets are averaging being outscored at home.
Diamondbacks 3.75, Braves 3.41
Reds 4.77, Astros 3.62
Nationals 6.28, Brewers 5.22 - I believe these two games fall in a special category, where the road teams appear to have value, but from a technical standpoint, the home teams are the play. I'd pass these games.
Cubs 3.05, Cardinals 5.82 - I see a lot of respected posters have the Cardinals -1.5 here. Generally, I think laying 1.5 is a bad idea - probably the biggest mistake most baseball gamblers make, but this game has blowout written all over it.
Marlins 4.29, Rockies 4.46
Phillies 4.81, Dodgers 5.74 - Over is the play in this one, I think. Madson's ERA his last five starts is 8.55, and the Phillies are 4-1 in those games!
Angels 5.77, Indians 4.43
Yankees 5.17, Orioles 4.44 - My numbers rarely give me the Yankees as a value play.
Red Sox 4.11, Tigers 4.72 - I knew the Tigers would be a value play, but I'm personally not crazy about them. Still, it's hard to pass them up getting better than 130, when Rogers' overall ERA is better, and his home ERA is more than 3 runs better than Schilling's road ERA.
Blue Jays 5.02, Devil Rays 3.90
Rangers 4.84, White Sox 4.68
Royals 4.19, Mariners 5.16
Twins 4.43, A's 3.64
