Once again, Suns scored 121,106 in their wins, 98,88 in losses; in Game 4 rout, Bell returned and gave Suns huge lift, while Dallas struggled with Nowitzki 3-13 from floor. Phoenix shot 55.3/54.4% in their two wins, 44.9/42.7% in losses, so can Suns can get on run and get open looks? Will Dallas work ball inside and expose Suns' defense, which is tad tougher with Kurt Thomas now back and available. Barbos ais obviously more comfortable off bench and on floor when Nash sits, so Bell's presence is big help there. This is bigger game for Mavericks than for Phoenix.

By the way, under is 8-1 in this round so far, 3-1 in this series.

      NHL

Game 7 says it all, especially when home side won in overtime in last two games, highly dramatic finishes. Five of six series tilts were decided by one goal, so we have dead-even series decided by this one game. There really are no more stats to look at, this series has been so even, it is about the bounce of puck and the hot goalie. Carolina had scored goal in 13 of first 14 periods in series, but only one goal in last four periods. Home team is 4-2 in series so far.

        Six-Pack for Thursday
-- Classic pitching duel at Shea last night; Webb-Martinez. Old fashioned, National League baseball. Good stuff.
-- Tigers haven't exactly quieted the skeptics, have they?
-- I'm watching Devil Rays-Orioles tonight, and they show Jim Palmer on camera. The guy never gets older looking.
-- Cardinals played nine series in their new stadium; they're 9-0 in those series.
-- Bad teams gets hosed on calls. Only hit Liriano gave up in six innings was infield hit, on horrible call at first base.
-- After Vernon Wells hit his third homer Tuesday, he went right to trainer in dugout; turns out he hurt his shoulder in the ondeck circle. What are these guys made of?

Thursday's List of 13: Our offseason look at Chicago Bears
          13) Looking at Bears' first five draft picks, all defensive guys, you'd figure Chicago was an offensive dynamo. Not quite. In 2005, Bears ranked 31st in 3rd down conversions and black zone offense, 28th in green zone offense. Still, other than the addition of Brian Greise at QB, they reinforced the defense.

          12) After a 1-3 start last year, Chicago won eight in row, with a turnover margin of just +1 during that stretch, so they won with great defense, solid special teams and mistake-free play by backup QB Orton. during the eight game streak, Chicago's opponents went 3-and-out 48 times in 100 drives.

          11) Once Grossman got healthy, Bears couldn't wait to insert him as starter and sit Orton, who was solid as starter. Chicago ran the ball better with Grossman as starter, but those games were against non-playoff teams.

          10) Only Atlanta's (30.9%) defense was stingier on 3rd down than the Bears (31.9%). Only twice in their last ten games did Chicago lose the field position battle.

          9) Bears were fifth in NFL in takeaways (34), but also turned ball over 28 times. Biggest thing they did was not allow TDs, as Bear foes scored only 17 offensive TD's on 189 drives.

          8) Bears were bad on first drives with ball, averaging 16.7 ypd on first drive of game (31st), 21.4 ypd on first drive of the 3rd quarter (30th). Bears scored 31 points on 32 opening drives of a half, the fewest number in NFL last season.

          7) Chicago's offense was on field for just 937 plays last year, 29th in NFL; only two teams averaged less than their 4.4 yds per play

          6) Bears were 5-1 vs division foes, losing only in final regular season game at Minnesota; they held Lions to two TD's in 24 drives in their two games, but now that Martz madness is in Motor City, Lion-Bear games should become lot more fun, as Lovie Smith was Martz' defensive coordinator with Rams.

          5) Bears outrushed Green Bay 274-165 in their two late season wins vs Pack, winning despite going just 5-23 on third down against Green Bay.

          4) In their five regular season losses, Chicago scored 7,7,10,9 and 10 points; their only win in four games vs AFC was ugly 10-6 home win vs Baltimore. Any upside Chicago has comes on the offensive side of ball; there is lot of room to improve.

          3) Bears are hoping Devin Hester can bolster the return game, which improves field position, which helps the offense, but wouldn't have a new tight end been beneficial to the cause?

          2) The '06 schedule starts with all three division rovals and with games vs Lions, Packers. Three straight weeks on road in November include back-to-back trips to Swamp, then visit to Foxboro. They also have Monday night game at Arizona.

          1) Listening to TV guys last year, you'd think Rex Grossman was a combination of Sid Luckman and Jim McMahon, but he isn't, and I'd expect Griese to eventually became the Bears' QB Chicago needs offensive improvement to stay on top of what is a rapidly changing NFC North.

                            Chicago White Sox at Cleveland
The Indians have picked up the pace after getting embarrassed by the White Sox on Monday (11-0) and have won the last two games of the series heading into today's finale. Yesterday Jake Westbrook and the bullpen combined for a seven-hit shutout and Paul Byrd will try to carry that momentum into today's game. The veteran right-hander is coming off one of his best starts after not allowing an earned run over seven innings against the Tigers on Saturday. White Sox starter Jose Contreras will be making just his second start since coming off the DL and wasn't quite as sharp although he still managed to retire 16 of 19 batters he faced during one stretch against Toronto on Saturday. Runs look to be hard to come by against two quality starters, which should help keep Cleveland within the Vegas run line of 1 1/2
