  • manager for a day

If you were a manager, would you ever have a Sosa or Griffey, etc bunt in a situation that called for it?

Yes, if it was called for and the reason is its about winning. You have 9 players on the field and being a succesful hitter is going 1 for 3 or failing 2 times out of 3.

Then I wonder why I have NEVER seen a player in that caliber bunt. I realize they can do damage with one swing, but most of the time managers would play the "odds" with any other player.

In the old days before Babe Ruth started pounding out homers they made players bunt on a regular basis, but then again they didn't have home run hitters before the Babe.

The only problem with having those tyype players bunt is they rarley are in that situation and hardly ever practice bunting.
In today's game, players can not bunt for whatever reason.

I would take the chance and have them swing away, because that is what they do constantly and when the game is on the line, I would rather have them doing what they know best.
