It would be very surprising at his stage of his career to pitch a no hitter when one considers that better and much younger pitchers like Pedro Martinez have not yet succeeded in doing so.
ps I wil give him credit so far for this year;he has done well-I just don't think he is no hit material.

no met has ever pitched a no hitter, Glavine will if he leaves the mets.

See: David Cone and Kenny Rogers
                    Good Luck to everyone
                    Adam

Richie: [after Gus hits a homerun] Wow and he did it without steroids.
                    Clark: What's steroids?
Richie: Something that makes your pee-pee smaller.
Clark: There must be steroids in macaroni!

any pitcher, I mean "ANY" pitcher, from 24-44 is subject to "at any time" throw a no-hitter and or perfect game.....it's the irony of sports.....plus----

when a pitcher has a good day, called "when his stuff is working"---he should be in control, and with good defense, and some luck----it can be achieved.............

also---a pitcher could be hit extremely hard for 27 batters, and conceiveably could be hit to one of his men for great plays, or extreme luck.........

age is no big factor in a pitcher pitching a no hitter, if he's still fit and his stuff is working..........and Glavine is "no hit" material......kapt

                              I agree to a point.
I still think that a younger Glavine earlier in his career would have a better chance especially later on in the game 8th or 9th inning when he might need just a little bit extra.
Obviously in the history of baseball there have been some no hitters by no-name pitchers as well of course by the Nolan Ryans of the world.
As you state, luck is a big factor as well sometimes the team's defense.
I didn't mean to infer that it could not happen;I was merely suggesting that since he had not pitched a no hitter previously(I don't know how close he came), I would be surprised to see him achieve this feat right now.
Obviously it is a surprise of sort when anyone pitches a no hitter;this is a rare event.
In retrospec,t perhaps I should not have said he is not no hit material.
I maintain though that most fans including mysefl would be a lot more surprised if he pitched one than say Pedro or any of the other younger/established and/or promising pitchers around.
ps Do you or does anyone know how many pitchers in the history of baseball have thrown a no hitter at 40 or after?
