Miami won first game 91-86 at Detroit, shooting 56.3% from floor as Wade scored 25 points on only 11 shots from floor. Detroit is tired after grueling Cleveland series, but they need win here to avoid hitting South Beach down 0-2. Pistons shot 37.8% in first game from floor (5-21 beyond arc, too many tries for them), as starting guards combined to go 15-41, not good at all. Heat was +11 on boards (43-32), -10 in turnovers (16-6) but with Detroit in shooting funk, they couldn't capitalize. Bigger game for Detroit, this Game 2 is.

8th-seeded Edmonton reason NHL playoffs are better than their NBA counterparts; anyone who gets in it can win it, and now, in year where Edmonton was shaky, they're one game from Finals, after surviving four-goal Anaheim outburst in Game 3, winning by 4-3 count. Ducks lost 13 games in row on this rink; not only do they have to win thi sgame to stay alive, they have to beat Oilers twice more at home, then another game here. Anaheim is a poor 1-20 on power play in series, and unless they change a lot in a hurry, series will be ending soon

                  Six-Pack for Thursday
-- Sign of Times, part 1: Albert Pujols has been tested for drugs three times already this season.
-- Sign of Times, part 2: Ohio State football coach Tressel now earns a hefty $2.4 million a year; they only play twelve regular season games, and are heavily favored in most of them. Must be combined 8-2 record in Michigan/bowl tilts.
-- There has been a Rocco Baldelli sighting; he went 4-7 in a rehab assignment at AAA Durham, his first action since '04 and appears almost ready to rejoin the Devil Rays.
-- Carl Crawford became the first player in over 37 years to get five hits, four stolen bases and score five runs in same game, as he came to life in Rays' 10-8 win at Toronto.
-- Steve Nash had 27 points, 16 assists, as Suns, playing whole season without their best player, are just seven Ws away from an unlikely World Championship.
-- Anyone who voted for Kobe Bryant for MVP ahead of Nash probably has good fantasy league team, but doesn't know first thing about what makes real teams great.

Thursday's List of 13: Tipping pitches, other baseball stuff
                    13) Randy Johnson has now allowed 41 runs in his last 42.1 IP, tossing 415 pitches in his last 19.1 innings on the hill.

                    12) Vladimir Guerrero has played 42 career games vs Rangers, and has gotten at least one hit in all 42 games.

                    11) JT Snow is asking to be traded, since Kevin Youkilis has taken over 1st base in Beantown. Red Sox are trying to oblige

                    10) Rumor has popped up that Barry Bonds may be DHing in Oakland next season. They could use him right now.

                    9) Attendance was up 26.4% for first weekend of interleague play. NL teams held a 22-20 edge in the first set of games.

                    8) Henry Aaron hit more HR's off Don Drysdale (17) than any other pitcher. Claude Osteen (14) was next; two guys that had real good careers, with Drysdale a Hall of Famer.

                    7) Bonds has hit eight home runs off of four different guys: Maddux-Schilling-Smoltz and Mulholland.

                    6) Babe Ruth hit 17 homers off Rube Wallberg, 14 vs guy with a great name, Hooks Rauss.

                    5) Ruth hit 72 homers after the eighth inning (Aaron hit 63, Bonds has 62).

                    4) Quote of the Day: "Great achievement involves great risk."

                    3) Carl Pavano has a 4-year contract worth $39.5M; so far, he has returned 4-6 record, with 4.77 ERA, in 100 IP, on that big investment, and he is done this season, year #2 of the deal.

                    2) Pirates are 1-15 vs lefthanded starting pitchers this year.

                    1) Speaking of lefties, Tampa Bay's Kazmir has three wins at Fenway before the age of 23, making him first visiting lefty to do that since before World War II. Will Friday be his fourth?
