  • TP's Wednesday 5/24

Well, currently on a 3-game slide, as yesterday saw another walk-off loss. Granted, all those plays were big underdogs, so losing streaks are to be somewhat expected at time. If my record at the end of the year is anywhere near .500, I will have made a huge profit. With all that said, I am going a different route today, and taking a favorite.

Baseball Play of the Day (25-22, +5.48*)

    Seattle Mariners -120 (Washburn/Benson)
    Throwing out some numbers.

    BALTIMORE:
On the road: 6-13 (3.7 rpg)
    vs. LHSP 4-10 (2.8 rpg)
On the road against LHSP: 1-7 (2.8 rpg)

    SEATTLE
    vs. RHSP: 16-15 (5.3 rpg)
at home vs. RHSP: 9-7 (5.6 rpg)

You can argue who the better pitcher in this game is, I think it's Washburn. Their overall numbers are similar, but Washburn's home ERA is more than 2 runs better than Benson's road ERA. In five home starts, his WHIP is an almost unheard of 0.821 (Here is the list of pitchers with WHIPs under 1 - Contreras, Janssen, Pedro, Mussina - pretty impressive).
    • The Cubs are again a road favorite despite having won 1 of their last 21 games not started by Zambrano (I actually think they will win tomorrow, but I'm not even considering fading those numbers).
    • Normally lefty/lefty matchups are good for unders - not in the Mil/Cin game tomorrow - both those teams kill lefties.
    • Randy Johnson is about to start pitching well again, in my opinion. I really liked what he did after the first inning his last start.
    • I am again going to take the road team in the Carolina/Buffalo series - I really think this series goes back to Carolina tied at 2.
    • Phoenix Dallas Under 221 - I'm playing it big. Avery Johnson understands his team very well. He knew the Mavs biggest advantage over the Spurs was speed and depth - so he tried to force the tempo. He won't be lulled into that trap against the Suns.
In the four regular season meetings, these teams only averaged 205.25 points between them in regulation. The highest combined score was 222. So this game, in the playoffs, is supposed to be more high scoring than those meaningless games?

    Good luck everyone.
