I forgot to post this on Sunday ... I know some of you like to read these .... So lets start this thread off with yesterdays ....

    Six-Pack for Sunday
-- Barbaro was bet down to 1-2 just before post time, as the lure of a "sure thing" sucked the public in. No one thought Barbaro was a superhorse before the Derby- why would a single race change everyone's mind?
-- Feel bad for people who run Pimlico, a struggling track that is rumored to be odd man out if they change the format for the Triple Crown, stretching it out over longer period. A great day for track (118,000+ fans) turned into a disaster.
-- Barry Bonds has hit home runs off of six sets of brothers.
-- 65 of Bonds' 714 homers came the first time he faced that pitcher, with Brad Halsey the 65th Saturday.
-- He has been walked intentionally 69 times with a runner at first base. He was walked once with bases loaded.
    -- Quote of the Day:
"There is such thing as a sure thing, thats why they call it gambling." Oscar Madison, Odd Couple

Sunday's List of 13: Random thoughts on another rainy day
    13) Bad day for Willie Randolph Saturrday, as he snatched a defeat from the jaws of victory, putting Wagner in with a 4-0 lead in last inning, only to watch him turn into Mitch Williams

    12) They do pregame show on WGN in Chicago prior to Cub-White Sox game, interviewing players and showing BP. It is funny how FOX and ESPN ignore Chicago interleague games and obsess with the two New York teams. Interleague is a big thing, in all the local rivalries.

    11) Which is why baseball should realign geographically, but even though Bud Selig has pushed for it, it ain't happening.

    10) Unfortunately, Rockies-Blue Jays and Reds-Tigers aren't exactly the stuff of great rivalries. Toronto lost out on their natural rivalry when the Expos disappeared.

    9) How about Michael Barrett going WWE on AJ Pierzynski Saturday? He just hauled off and slugged him. You read lot of stuff about how Pierzynski isn't a popular guy, how he runs his mouth lot, but never saw guy get punched quite like that.

    8) Can't be good time for Cub fans, with team in freefall, with crosstown rival White Sox the World Champs, and frustration may have played into the brawl yesterday.

    7) How come there aren't more fights in NASCAR? No road rage when cars are going 180 mph? You'd think they'd have a ton of incidents, but they don't seem to.

    6) Angels really miss Bartolo Colon, an innings-eater; they probably also miss C Molina and bench coach Maddon, who is keeping the Devil Rays respectable in first year as skipper.

    5) All five NL West teams are .500 or better.

    4) Jason Schmidt threw 132 pitches Saturday, most by pitcher in major leagues this year, topping 130 Smoltz threw earlier in the week.

    3) Braves are 12-19 vs teams other than Nationals, Marlins.

    2) So far, through two days of interleague, AL teams are 9-5 at home, 7-7 on road; oddly, the AL home games, with a DH, have stayed under total in eight of 14 games. NL games, with no DH, have gone over seven of thirteen, with a push.

    1) By the way, I know Barry Bonds' 714th HR is big deal, but did ESPN have to show it 45 times on SportsCenter? When a game ends on walk-off homer, it should be shown, but guess the Devil Rays don't merit highlights.

Spurs have momentum, home court back after Game 6 win where they held Dallas to 39% from floor; Mavs get Terry back for this decisive game. Dallas scored 113-104-123 points in their series wins, 85-97-86 in losses, so key is for Spurs to contest shots, hit the defensive boards. Quick start would be nice, as Spurs have yet to lead at halftime in series (two games were tied). Only one of six series games was decided by more than five points, with three decided by two or less.

Suns looked dead in water Thursday night, as Clippers won the rebounding battle 48-28 (+3,+18,+20 in wins, +5,+1,+7 in losses). LA shot 61.5%, and Phoenix seemed helpless to stop them, as Clippers took 73 two-point shots, only five treys. Suns took an average of 32 treys a game in last three. Big question is: did the long layoff between games get Suns their energy back? Can the shooting touch return to Nash, who missed fourteen treys in a row, at one point? Clippers scored 114+ in five of six series tilts.

Road team is 3-0 in this round so far, between Sabres' win and Edmonton's 2-0 start vs Anaheim, with all three games staying under total. Teams are combined 3-28 on power play, with the Sabres 0-3, Carolina 0-4 in Game 1 upset by Buffalo, which has now won five straight playoff road games. Carolina was down
2-0 vs Montreal in first round, rallied to win series, so this isn't over yet, but they'll need to win back home ice.

                  Six-Pack for Monday
-- David Duval shot par or better all four rounds this week, the first time since Las Vegas in '04, as his comeback from losing his golf game slowly progresses.
-- Bubba Watson was tied for second at Colonial Thursday, shot 77 Friday and missed the cut. Whoops.
-- Median teacher's salary for Albany City Schools is a cool $56,000. Plus you get summers off.
-- Cubs sent rookie lefty Rich Hill back to AAA; they were outscored 27-1 in his four starts this season.
-- Randy Johnson has thrown 310 pitches in his last 14.2 innings, and given up 36 runs in his last 37.2 IP. Bronx is 0-5 in his starts when they give him less than seven runs.
-- What do Phillies do with Shane Victorino when they get Aaron Rowand back? The kid is hitting .362, but there isn't any room for him in the Philly outfield.

Monday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but..............
                    13) 12 of the 16 NL teams are at .500 or better; there are four NL clubs (Pirates, Cubs, Nationals, Marlins) who are awful.

                    12) If you're in NL West and 23-21, you're tied for last place.

                    11) If Bernardino doesn't run in Belmont, when was last time the Belmont didn't have either Derby or Preakness winner?

                    10) Royals are 10-31, and lost their last nine games, then they have to play Cardinals as their main interleague opponent-- it just doesn't seem fair.

                    9) In the end, Cavaliers didn't believe they could win; when a team (other than Lebron) shoots 9-41 in a decisive game, they had enough. Friday night was their window and it slammed shut on them. They're a team on the rise, though.

                    8) ESPN has a WNBA doubleheader on Tuesday; don't they have any poker reruns left? Darts? Shuffleboard?

                    7) Guess Sunday was big game for Braves; Tim Hudson was in for 122 pitches, seven more than any other start in '06.

                    6) Endy Chavex got in Bronx-Mets game Sunday; he had his hand in his back pocket, and looked like Bob Hayes in the Ice Bowl. It couldn't have been that cold at Shea last night.

                    5) Big weekend for the Twins, as they beat Milwaukee two of three, and got their new 42,000-seat, downtown stadium got the OK. Plus, their two big pitching prospects made starts in Brewers series, and both Liriano and Bonser did real well.

                    4) I have one question; if you spend $552 million on stadium for downtown Minneapolis, why not spend a little more and kick in for a retractable roof? Have fun in April, people.

                    3) Florida Marlin announcers were all over Twins' situation on their Sunday broadcast, stressing how much of funding is public. Even Dick Vitale campaigned for a new stadium for the Marlins, during an interview in the stands.

                    2) Marlins allowed four walk-off hits last week, given up by four different relievers. Now thats a team effort.

                    1) Speaking of the Marlins, if they try to trade either Willis or Cabrera this season, the commissioner has to step in and see if it is "baseball's best interest", as Bowie Kuhn used to say. They're bad enough as it is, they need to keep young talent.
