Disclaimer - I'm not Tomorrow's Newspaper from the **. A lot of people made that assumption - evidently he left that site for another one, and some assumed that I am him. Sorry if anyone was misled, as that's not the case.
Anyway, on to more pleasant news. Yesterday's POD won easily. (Though it was frustrating to watch a blatantly rigged game in Dallas - I enjoyed Avery Johnson's news conference afterwards, where he subtly insulted Stern and the NBA's obvious decision to force Game 7.)
On a personal note, I am excited about the Sabres series with Carolina, although I think they may come up short. This is a series where home-ice won't be much a factor, and betting the road team in every game will turn a profit. That is what I will be doing.
Baseball Play of the Day (25-20, +8.48*)
Philadelphia Phillies +100 (Myers/Beckett)
This is the game I have been waiting for - I get an underpriced pitcher and a mildly underpriced team against a highly overpriced pitcher and overpriced team. The only thing keeping the Phillies from being -120 or more here is misplaced public opinion.
Myers is a stud. He has been very good lately, allowing 0, 2, 3, 2, 2, and 1 ER in his last six starts. His ERA for the season is 2.73, and at home that is 3.12, very admirable for this hitter's park. He faces a good lineup, but he has been going against teams in the top half of offensive stats all season.
Josh Beckett, on the other hand, is the most overhyped pitcher I have ever seen. He is a career .500 pitcher who made a fortune by having a great run in the postseason a couple years ago. Not that this is his fault, but he isn't in the upper echelon of pitchers. In his last 5 starts, his ERA is 6.30, and those games echo the story of his career - he beats the teams who start a mediocre pitcher, and loses to those who start an above average pitcher.
His ERA is 4.24, and an even worse 5.06 on the road. He also faces a lineup which feasts on RHP. At home against RHSPs, the Phillies are 10-3, averaging 5.6 runs per game.
Philly has been playing well at home lately after a terrible start - even with yesterday's loss, the Phillies have won 10 of 14 at home, 3 of which were started by Myers.
Good luck everyone!
