  • TP's Friday 5/19

Somewhat lucky win yesterday, which, in my opinion, was a long time coming after some of the losses I've taken in recent weeks. Anyway, I love interleague play, and here's one I like pretty well to start it off.

Baseball Play of the Day (24-20, +7.48):

    Colorado Rockies -124 (Cook/Towers)
I'd like to congratulate Josh Towers for winning his last game, and improving his record to 1-7 on the year. He also brought his ERA down to 8.46, and 9.38 away from home. His WHIP is nearly 2.
Basically, he's not anywhere near Aaron Cook's class. Cook's home ERA is 2.79, and his WHIP is close to half of Towers'. He keeps the ball down in the zone, which is the key to success at Coors Field. Towers won't do that regularly enough.
The Blue Jays just won an extra inning game in Anaheim, while Colorado had today off to prepare for this one. The Rockies already have the better bullpen, and now they are more rested as well. They will start interleague play off on a good note with a solid victory here.
    Records:

    NCAA Hoops (38-34-2, +4.59*)
    NFL Sides (34-25, +12.15*)
    NFL Totals (18-14-1, +8.23*)
    NCAA Foots Plays (65-48-4, +21.47*)
    NBA Plays (4-1-0, +5.92*)

Opinions (which might have been the best part of this daily thread if anyone has been paying attention):
    • The Pirates are facing a LHP again tomorrow - now 1-14 against LH starters this season. The problem is, I actually like their chances here, as Cleveland struggles a little against LHP also, and they haven't been playing well lately.
    • I like two unders - I have both as a run too high. Cincy @ Det - RH/LH pitching stats strongly favor this, and Det games, especially at home, have been going under consistently. Also, Baltimore @ Was - O'Connor is a very good pitcher (the Nats were my second choice for POD), and the O's are 0-6 on the road against LHPs. The Nats are averaging barely over 3 rpg at home, and even worse against RHP.
    • A lot of people are on the Red Sox tomorrow - I think they will get blown out. The Phillies are on a serious run at home, and they will take full advantage of a mediocre Matt Clement.
    • The Royals are worth a shot tomorrow. They are 8-4 at home against RHSP, and they are scoring almost 6 rpg in those games. The Cardinals, even with Carpenter, aren't good enough to be this big a road favorite.
    • The oddsmakers are begging for money on San Diego tomorrow. But, Washburn has been good, and I think the M's are the play in that one - the line will move the other way though.

    • Don't waste your money betting on the Spurs tomorrow. They will not win - in fact, I think they will get blown out. Terry is not a big loss from a personnel standpoint - San Antonio can't stop Harris or Howard anyway. Instead, his loss gives Mavs backers (me) line value, and the team and crowd extra motivation. Cubes already said it will be the loudest in the history of the American Airlines Center tomorrow, and he's right.
This is being billed as a must-win game for San Antonio. Well, it's a must-win game for a reason. They are the second best team in Texas, and Dallas at home is money. They have the largest FT differential in home/road games in the league, and they have been all but unbeatable all season. That will not change tomorrow.
