Clipper-Phoenix series been entertaining; three games Suns won they had rebounding margins of -5/-1/-7; in their losses, Phoenix was -31/-18 off boards, so up to Marion, Diaw, Thomas to battle on rebounds and at least keep Clippers from dominating caroms. Cassell's shooting has also been big variable; he had 28 in Game 4, but was 11-24 in last game, and Mobley was 5-17. So Clippers guards need to make shots, Suns need to hold their own on the boards, as NBA hopes for a Game 7 Monday night.

      Six-Pack for Thursday
-- May Madness continued as Cleveland stunned Detroit and the Spurs survived Game 5 vs Dallas, with the games decided by total of three points. Mr Stern's league is having its best playoffs in years.
-- Best thing for NBA in long time is that teams without full set of skilled offensive players are getting beat in playoffs. Ben Wallace goes 0-7 from line in 86-84 game; it kills them.
-- Tim Duncan was 11-11 from floor Wednesday, was fouled nine times, and had 28 points. At the half.
-- Padres scored nine runs in top of first Wednesday at the ballpark in Phoenix, whatever bank it is named after now, and after six innings, they led 11-10, as relief pitching in the major leagues continues to be a horror. Padres won, 14-10.
-- Orioles ended 13-game losing streak vs the Red Sox, 4-3.
-- Texas lost 4-3 in the Bronx, seeing only 81 pitches in the eight innings Wang pitched. Thats a night after 334-pitch debacle of Tuesday, the 14-13 loss, when Texas led, 9-0.

Thursday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but................
        13) It is the Pro Football Hall of Fame, not the NFL Hall of Fame, but no way is Doug Flutie a Hall of Famer; he'd have to wait in line behind Warren Moon and maybe even Dieter Brock, who won division title in his only NFL season, after a stellar CFL career. Moon belongs in the Hall, no doubt.

        12) Texas Rangers lost 14-13 Tuesday, after leading 9-0 in second inning. Huge red flags for both teams; pitching wins championships, and 14-13 games in May do not indicate pitching quality or depth, on either side.

        11) Horse racing is tough game to beat. Example: third race Tuesday at River Downs, winning horse pays $14, but the animal had been 0-for-23 lifetime coming in. Who the hell can bet on an 0-23 horse? Very challenging game to beat.

        10) ABC is going to air college football game every Saturday night this fall, with Brent Musberger and Bob Davie at the mike. Would prefer Ron Franklin as play-by-play guy, but my guess is he stays on the ESPN Saturday nighter.

        9) Not only has Andy Kennedy worked hard at bringing in new hoop players to Ole Miss, he has gotten rid of three he didn't want, freeing up three more scholarships.

This is an unseen side of college sports, where scholarships are renewable each year, and when a new coach takes over, especially in low numbers sport like basketball, heads will sometimes roll.

        8) For whatever reason, baseball totals show a 39-26-5 edge for the under on Monday nights, and a 55-31-3 edge for over on Tuesdays. Draw your own conclusions why. I don't know.

        7) Tigers' last winning season was 85-77 mark in '93; can it be that Jim Leyland clinches Manager of Year by Memorial Day?

        6) 61 players played for both Giants and Oakland A's, with all three Alou brothers playing for both clubs. Matty and Jesus Alou were on A's World Championship teams.

        5) How much time do you think NBA teams spend working on jump ball situations? Probablly not a lot, but that is how the Dallas-San Antonio game finished, with two jump balls in last :06. NBA playoffs have been like NCAA tourney in '06, lot of close ballgames. never want to hear again that guys in the NBA don't play defense; most of them play very hard.

        4) A gas can that a NASCAR pit crew uses contains twelve gallons of gas and weighs up to eighty pounds.

        3) Of course, the NFL turned down Reggie Bush's request to wear #5 for the Saints, fearing anarchy if numbering system was disrupted. Someone should show these people some old AFL footage, with the two-point conversion and wide open offenses. They could use a dose of this in the modern game; the two-point conversion has been a welcomed addition.

        2) David Ortiz is on the All-Star ballot, Jim Thome isn't- there is no DH in All-Star Game this year, because game is in an NL ballpark (Pittsburgh). Totally ridiculous idea, no DH in game like this, but does Ortiz even own a baseball glove?

        1) Of all the ill-advised things baseball does, and we're going to write our annual column about this soon, no DH in summer classic is way high on the list. No way ever, should a pitcher bat in All-Star Game, not with 30+ guys on a roster.
