Cavaliers traveled to St Louis yesterday for funeral of brother of Larry Hughes; they have to be at least a little fatigued- Lebron played all 96 minutes of two wins in Cleveland, and Murray was on floor for over 40 minutes a game, too. Pistons led all four in series at halftime, but they shot just 39.4%, 33.3% in two games in Ohio, as percentage has gone down every game in series. Any underdog with best player on the floor is a dangerous dog.

Three of four Dallas-San Antonio games came down to wire- in Game 4, Dallas got 50 points from their starting guards, and 26 from Stackhouse off bench, so they're giving Nowitzki lot more support than Spurs giving Duncan, even though Parker had 33 in last game. Only Spur win stayed under, last three games all went over the total. San Antonio in same position Suns were in last round, noly playing stronger opponent.

      NHL analysis

Edmonton scored six goals on only 18 shots in Game 5 win at San Jose, converting 3-7 on power play; they've scored 12 goals in last two games, after scoring two goals total in first two tilts in series. Extra rest between games has to help Sharks regroup from home loss; they regain home ice for Game 7 with win here, but seven third period goals for Oilers in last two games would indicate a tiring San Jose squad.

        Six-Pack for Wednesday
-- Amazing NBA game late Tuesday night, as Phoenix beat Clippers 125-118 in double OT; Clippers' plan is to wear Nash down, which is working, but this was their chance to gain stranglehold on series, and they screwed it up.
-- Both teams took over 100 shots in the game. It is too bad much of game was played after 12:00 in east, because this was a tremendous ballgame.
-- What is Mike Dunleavy thinking putting Daniel Ewing in game to guard Raja Bell with :03.9 left and Clippers up 3? He hadn't been in the game yet. Eeessshhhh. Al Maguire said, "If you're going to use a guy in the second half, make sure he gets in before halftime." Dunleavy should know better.
-- Not only that, how about fouling on the catch, especially when dangerous shooter like Bell is getting ball? Bell just makes catch, drills a trey, and Suns have new life. Wow.
-- Anyway, Shawn Marion was a warrior, playing with an injured ankle, and saving Steve Nash, who had subpar OT.
-- If you took LA and the 4.5 points, my condolences on a brutal beat. Hopefully you also had the over to bail out.

Wednesday's List of 13: Obscure baseball knowledge....
Baseball Encyclopedia. Here is some of what I found..................
          13) Why isn't Warren Spahn more famous? Former Braves' pitcher won NL ERA titles in three different decades, in 1947, 1953 and 1961. To me, that is an amazing feat.

          12) Over a 17-year stretch from 1947-63, he threw 245 or more innings every year, and the Braves played in World Series, so his accomplishments should be better publicized.

          11) At age 42, he went 23-7 for a Braves team that was 84-78. He won 363 games for his career. If he played in New York, they re-name the Triboro Bridge after him, and you think I am kidding. He was that good.

          10) Mark Fidrych was a one-year wonder who went 19-9 in '76, hurt his arm and was never the same again. "Bird" threw 250 innings in '76, made the Tigers a fortune because it was an automatic sellout when he pitched, but after '76, he only threw 162 innings the rest of his career, going 10-10.

          9) The 1968 Giants threw 77 complete games, as a team. In '04, the entire National League threw 71 complete games.

          8) Bob Gibson had a 1.12 ERA in 1968; hitters batted just .184 for the season against him, in 304 IP. We'll never see numbers like that again, I don't think.

          7) While Jackie Robinson drew 74+ walks in six of first seven years in big leagues, he never struck out more than 40 times in a season, and he scored 99 or more runs in each of his first seven years. He broke in to big leagues late, at age 28.

          6) In his first two years in big leagues, when he was 19,20 yrs of age, Dwight Gooden struck out 276,268 hitters. After that, only once did he strike out more than 200 in a season- he was 132-53 at age 26, but only 62-59 after age 26.

          5) Hank Aaron stole 240 bases in his career (76.7%) and also scored 102+ runs thirteen years in a row. He was much more than a home run hitter, and remains most underrated player in history of baseball, as far as I'm concerned.

          4) Tommie Aaron, Hank's brother, hit thirteen homers in 1,030 career plate appearances, with career batting average of .229.

          3) Steve Karsay was traded from Toronto to Oakland as part of Rickey Henderson trade back when I still had a full head of hair ('93). Now, Karsay is back in Oakland, helping to patch together an injury-riddled bullpen. Has anyone been on DL more than Karsay himself? It is hard to imagine anyone has.

          2) Goose Gossage started 29 games for '76 White Sox, with 15 complete games, then never started another game in bigs, as he became one of baseball's premiere closers.

          1) In last nine years, 80.1 IP is most Mariano Rivera has ever throw in season. When Rollie Fingers was dominant closer, only once in twelve years did he throw less than 107 innings in a season. Fingers averaged five outs an appearance in his prime, Rivera three. You make the call
