Well, Arizona fell a little short yesterday. I really like today's play, in fact it's probably my favorite of the year so far - I'm playing it for the same amount as the rest, but I feel incredibly good about it.
Baseball Play of the Day (20-18, +4.35*)
Florida Marlins +153 (Olsen/Duke)
This is a battle of two really nice young pitchers. Duke has achieved more publicity, but Olsen hasn't been serving it up either. On the road, his ERA is 2.85 in two Marlin wins. He has struggled his last couple starts, but that was against the Cardinals and Phillies. This is the Pirates, one of the worst offenses in the league.
I don't have much bad to say about Duke - though he has pitched better on the road than at home. But this play isn't about him. It's more about the Pirates laying more than -120 in a baseball game. Here's something that jumped out at me:
Pittsburgh is atrocious against LHP. In games against LHSP, they are only 1-12, averaging 3.5 runs per game. They are -160 against a LHSP.
Duke is Pittsburgh's best pitcher, but the Pirates are still only 2-5 in his starts. They aren't able to support him when he pitches well, and when he struggles, the Pirates have no chance.
