Nets, Miami played two awful games to watch in Florida, with a pair of blowouts; Heat's field goal % was up from 39.1% in first game to 52.7% in Game 2 (11-20 from arc) as Payton, Wade made several treys. Jefferson played but can''t be 100%; Nets were -8 on boards in Game 2, after breaking even in opener. Heat took a 25-4 lead last game; now they need a split in the Swamp.

Not only did the Clippers shoot 54.4 % in Game 2 rout of Suns (down from 59.3% in first game), LA had 19 offensive rebounds and crushed Phoenix in the paint, with a 57-26 rebounding edge, unheard of at pro level. Suns won't beat many good teams when they shoot 9-26 from arc. Key element to game would seem to be LA's discipline in getting ball inside, instead of taking whatever their first good look is at the hoop. Both games went over so far.

Epic triple OT game ended at 2:40am Thursday, with Edmonton getting goal that kept series close; Oilers outshot San Jose by a 57-34 margin, destroyed Edmonton 71-45 in faceoffs (winning 21 of first 26 faceoffs in OT) but Toskala's fine play kept Sharks in it. Six-Pack for Friday
-- You want to see a great, great catch, check out highlights of Aaron Rowand's grab in first inning last night, breaking his nose as he smashes into conterfield fence to rob Mets' Nady of bases-loaded triple. Phillies won game 2-0, so it was a game-saving play in the first inning.
-- Ken Griffey comes off the DL and promptly hits dramatic three-run tater in bottom of 11th to give Cinderella Reds an unlikely 5-4, 11-inning win over the Nationals Thursday.
-- Phillies' big pitching prospect Cole Hamels makes his '06 debut in the Queen City against the Reds Friday.
-- If you're the Cleveland Indians, and you think you have a shot at the playoffs, don't get swept in Kansas City.
-- 3:59 for nine-inning game in the Bronx. Not often in a 5-3 game does a batter get up six times, but Youkilis did.
-- Gavin Floyd of Phillies and Mark Teixeira of Texas grew up across street from each other in Maryland. They were drafted on consecutive picks in the 2001 Amateur Draft.

Friday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but..............
            13) espn.com ran a list of their ten greatest point guards, with Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson clearly top two choices.

            12) Tough part of the poll is to differentiate who is a point guard and who isn't. Jerry West isn't on the list (he finished 11th in voting) but to me, he has to be. Same as Earl Monroe, who in my opinion, was better player than Walt Frazier, but Clyde was a star on the Knicks, which gave him the edge.

            11) Interesting to see how Stockton, Cousy and Nash rank in the poll, the three caucasians in the top 10. I never got to see Cousy play, although I though he was great playing the AD in Blue Chips. Scoop Jackson ranked Cousy ahead of Nash and Stockton, but how can you rank someone you didn't see?

            10) Thought Allen Iverson might get some support, but no.... he is more of an I-guard (I dribble, I shoot, I seldom pass......) than a true point guard.

            9) Dontrelle Willis may thrown towel in on '06; in his last five starts, he has allowed 29 runs in 27.2 innings pitched.

            8) Speaking of struggling lefties, in Randy Johnson's last five starts, he has allowed 26 runs in 26.2 innings.

            7) How come I'm not excited that Barry Zito is lined up to start first game of A's-Bronx series? Probably because he's been pounded by the Evil Empire last eight times he faced them.

            6) Interesting story out about U of New Orleans is looking for new hoop coach, and it is not reach to say future of athletic department depends on it being a good hire, since 60% of the funding for the department comes from student activity fee, and enrollment at the school is down from 17,000 to 11,000.

            5) UNO needs the basketball team to be good, in order for the public, and students in general, to see that good things can and will happen again in the Crescent City. In this way, good hoops team can help invigorate the school in the public eye.

            4) Funny thing is, Privateers are supposed to be good team this coming season; they get star guard McCalebb back from broken wrist; they'll be one of better teams in Sun Belt. Will be great story if they can make the tournament next March.

            3) I still think every baseball game should be played 9 innings to its completion, not called a 5-inning win because of rain- it puts too much onus on umpires to get games in, and it makes for dangerous playing conditions.

            2) If game is rained out after two innings, pick the game up from that point at some other time; no stats should ever get washed out, and as few games as possible should be played in miserable weather.

            1) If I had to bet my last dollar right now, I say Barry Bonds is not going to break Henry Aaron's home run record.
