Pretty nice day Wednesday, hitting my baseball POD (and two strong opinions), but losing the hockey play in OT - but, if I was going to lose a game, that was the one I would have wanted it to be, as the Sabres are now pretty much guaranteed to head to the Eastern Conference finals.
Thursday's Baseball of the Day (20-17, +5.35*)
Mets (Trachsel) @ Phillies (Floyd) Over 10 (+100)
We know both of these teams are very good offensively, and they should tee off against these two pitchers.
Gavin Floyd is a minor league pitcher, and he isn't the answer for slowing the Mets offense down. His ERA is 6.16, largely due to a couple good outings recently. Don't be fooled - he is facing some of the lightest hitting teams in the league (SF, Pitt, Colorado, Wash, Atl, LA) in compiling this terrible ERA. At home, in this hitter's haven, his ERA is 8.50, and his WHIP (walks + hits per inning pitched) is an absolutely atrocious 2.611. He only has one quality start in four home games.
The most important thing about betting over in a Phillies game is to make sure they aren't going up against a LHP, as lefties seem to control the Phils offense a little. Trachsel is right-handed, and he hasn't been very impressive either.
Steve Trachsel's ERA is 4.96, and it's 5.17 in road games. He also has put up these mediocre numbers against light-hitting opposition (Atl, Atl, SF, SD, Mil, Fla). Trachsel also is struggling to put together quality starts, as he is 3 for 6.
The Over is 4-2 in Floyd's starts, 3-1 in his home starts. The Over is 5-1 in Trachsel's starts, including 2-1 on the road. As shown yesterday, either team is capable of going over this total by themselves, and with these pitchers, it's hard to expect single-digit runs in this one.
Good luck everyone!
