Nets won easily in Game 1, holding Miami to 39.1% from floor, and scoring 64 first half points (64-46), but Jefferson's injured ankle puts different spin on Game 2. Miami is desperate for win here; they got to line 43 times in first game, but were horrible on perimeter defensively and need much better performance here.

Clippers cannot run with Phoenix and beat them; they shot 59% in Game 1, led by five at half, shot more FTs than Suns, scored 123 points and still had no chance to win in fianl 2:00, losing by seven. Phoenix shot 54.7% from floor, made 12-27 treys (Clips made 4-12) and seemed to have lot of fun running up and down. Kaman can do damage inside for LA, but he needs slower pace.

Ottawa outshot Sabres 77-40 in first two games, but lost both at home anyway, as Buffalo won pair of one-goal games (7-6/2-1) and has now won four games in row since leeting fourth game of Philly series slip away. Ottawa was 0-7 on pwer play in Game 2; they've allowed nine goals on 40 shots in series- they outshot Buffalo 44-17 in Game 2, to no avail.

Carolina tore Devils' heart out with tying goal at 19:57 of third period Monday; then they scored game-winner off ankle of a rushing skater, taking 2-0 series lead and winning sixth game in a row overall. Devils hadn't lost since March, are suddenly in a 0-2 hole; they were outshot 38-23 in Game 2, and lost faceoffs by 40-23 margin.

San Jose won six games in row since losing opener in Nashville series; they won first two games of this series, both by 2-1 score as Oilers were outshot 68-41 in two games. Edmonton is 1-7 on power play, San Jose 1-11. Oilers need boost from home crowd as they try to get back in series here.

        Six-Pack for Wednesday
-- Sacramento fired Rick Adelman Tuesday, proving that it is indeed an insane world in the NBA. Adelman made it to playoffs eight years in row with Kings, was whisker away from beating the Shaq/Kobe Lakers in playoffs couple of times, and after Kings got Ron Artest this year, Kings were 26-14. Who are they going to hire that is a better coach?
-- Juan Pierre may have taken homer #714 away from Barry Bonds in fifth inning Tuesday, when he leapt to catch drive against centerfield fence.
-- It is funny seeing all the boats line up in McCovey Cove when Bonds comes to plate, all angling for position to get the cherished baseball should it wind up in the water.
-- 9,000 people bought tickets to the Met-Phils' game, just on Tuesday, as interest in Phillies' baseball heats up.
-- Mets' Duaner Sanchez hadn't allowed a run in 21.2 IP until he gave up one to Phillies Tuesday night.
-- Carlos Delgado was 2-30 vs Tom Gordon before taking a fastball deep into the centerfield bleachers to tie game in ninth inning Tuesday. Mets are going to be forced to make trade for bigtime pitcher-- soon, but it is just my opinion.

Wednesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but..........
          13) Page 112 of Poker Life magazine this month has Mr March Alex Rodriguez, playing poker with Jay Z at some celebrity event in Vegas. The magazine is eager to point out that back in October, A-Rod was prowling for poker action at Wynn in Las Vegas. I'm sure Bud Selig will be thrilled to see that.

          12) How much money are these internet poker sites making? Fulltilt.com is giving away 100 seats to the World Series of Poker, worth $10,000 apiece; thats $1M in seats they're giving away, so how much are they making in profits?

          11) The poker craze is actually alarming on some fronts; you read stories about 22-year old kids winning these $1 million events, and you think, what about the 1,000 kids who lost?

          10) Poker pro Chris Ferguson, who has a PhD from UCLA in computer science, says internet players can play 60 hands a hour, compared to 30 or 40 an hour live, so they get a lot of experience faster than players used to.

          9) There are parents of high school kids who approve of kids playing poker, because they know where the kids are, which is big concern sometimes. And if kids are playing in Hold'em tournaments, you can play for while without getting hurt.

          8) Very interesting to see how far this goes in our society. TV shows the glamorous side of poker, the money, the fame, the cars, women spending all your money, but there is obviously a dark side to all this too, like when the money runs out.

          7) Elsewhere, Mark Ellis had seven consecutive hits before he made an out in his last at-bat Tuesday night.

          6) One of main differences between mid-major college hoop teams and the big boys: Monte Towe made $150,000 as the head coach at New Orleans. He'll make $165,000 as assistant coach at NC State.

          5) For $300 a person, you can sleep over at Dodger Stadium after the July 9th game. Seriously.

          4) Cubs have switched 2nd baseman Todd Walker to 1st base as a sub for injured Carlos Lee; Rod Carew was probably the best player ever to make this move. Anyone can play at first; I believe that because I once played there.

          3) Padre pitcher Clay Hensley didn't take up pitching until he was 21 years old; he was 5-8 centerfielder in high school, and he also ran the hurdles in track. He's pretty good pitcher.

          2) Will be interesting to see how Devils bounce back in Game 3, after allowing tying goal with 0:03 left Monday, then losing on goal that bounced in off a skate in overtime. Carolina now has won six games in row and is rolling.

          1) Former Nebraska RB ****** Rodgers recently lost the ring he got for winning Heisman Trophy in '72; it was recovered, but without the jewels in it. This reminds me of the mid-70's, during the gas crisis, when Rodgers had just signed contract in pro football.
