Nets won last three games vs Miami, after losing first meeting at Miami, 90-89; wins were 95-88/105-92/90-78. Both teams won the first series in six games, but heat was 3-0 on this court. Health of Wade is key question for Miami, which averaged 107.8 ppg in wins vs Chicago, scored 90-87 in losses. Nets won two of three at Indiana in first round. Interesting series, could be long one.

Quick turnaround for Suns, after they crushed Lakers in Game 7, capping comeback from 3-1 series deficit. Noe they get rested Clipper squad that dispatched Denver in five games. LA, Suns split four series meetings, with each team going 1-1 on other's home court. Average total in the four games was 212.3.

Buffalo scored seven goals on just 23 shots in Game 1, beating Senators in OT goal; only one of their seven goals was power play goal (1-5). Sabres now beat Ottawa three in row after losing five of first six series meetings this year. Buffalo now scored 14 goals in last two games, both on the road.

Carolina crushed Devils 6-0 in Game 1, handing Jersey first loss since March; they outshot Devils 38-21, scored five goals on power play (5-8) and even controlled faceoffs 35-27 in winning fifth game in row since falling behind 2-0 in Montreal series. The Devils hadn't played in while; were they rusty?

Sharks won fifth game in row, beating Oilers 2-1 in Game 1, the fourth one-goal game in five series games (home team won four of the five games). Oilers lost Game i in first round in double OT at Detroit, so they can come back, but Sharks allowed just seven goals in last five games, and are 3-0 at home in playoffs.

        Six-Pack for Monday
-- When Babe Ruth hit his 714th and final home run, it was his third home run of the game that day.
-- Long game in AAA Friday night; so long, game did not end until Saturday night, when 24-inning tilt ended with New Orleans winning 5-4 at Nashville. Curfew caused game to be suspended early Saturday morning.
-- When the Mets drew a bases loaded walk three games in row Thursday-Saturday, it was first time in 44+-year history of franchise they had done that.
-- I wasn't surprised to learn Curt Schilling has 197 career wins, but was surprised to learn that Kenny Rogers has 195
-- In the last 26 Kentucky Derbys, favorite won twice, with an average payoff of $25.80. They call Saratoga Graveyard of Favorites, but it might really be Churchill Downs.
-- Under was 50-44-10 in major leagues this week, making it 234-203-30, in favor of the over so far this season.

Monday List of 13: Random thoughts on springtime Monday
          13) Weirdness ruled in top of second inning at Shea Sunday, as double play was overturned by a balk, then on a suicide squeeze, John Smoltz swung instead of bunting, hit a roller in front of plate, and when runner was called safe, LoDuca went nuts and spiked the ball, allowing both runners to advance.

When the umps ruled the batter had to go back to first, Cox came out and got tossed, so we had player on one team, and umpire on other both ejected on the same play. Very weird.

          12) I was remiss in not including Lebron James in discussion of potential MVPs with Dirk Nowitzki and Elton Brand. James means as much, if not more, to his team than anyone in NBA.

          11) Sports Illustrated did survey of 400+ major leaguers, and Derek Jeter got 9% of vote as most overrated player in bigs; dig deeper, and over 18% of foreign-born (mostly Hispanic) players voted Jeter the most overrated. Interesting.

          10) I didn't realize that over 250,000 U. of Texas graduates are living in Houston area, which explained why Vince Young's going to Tennessee Titans is a big disappointment to them.

          9) Larry Brown made $10 million this season, while leading his Knicks to a 23-59 record, despite having the highest payroll in NBA. Nicely done.

          8) Arizona Cardinals are trying very hard to instill a winning attitude, so much so, that their first six draft picks in the draft this spring played at: USC (2), Georgia, Michigan, Louisville, Virginia Tech, all teams that win lot of football games.

          7) Steelers' three QBs next year will be Roethlisberger, Batch and rookie Omar Jacobs, all of whom played college football in the Mid-American Conference (Miami, E. Mich, B. Green).

          6) David Duval was once ranked 1st in world, then he slipped all the way to #729. Now, he is back up to #444, and after T25 at Wachovia, he'll move up a little further.

          5) Retief Goosen was sitting in third place at -10 on 18th tee at Quail Hollow Sunday; then he hit three balls in water, got a 9, and dropped back to a tie for 10th at -5. Even players as great as Goosen look like hackers now and then.

          4) Six years ago, Grant Hill signed a 7-year, $93 million deal in Orlando; with one year left on that deal, Hill has played in 135 games, and missed 357. Not exactly good deal for the Magic.

          3) Tampa Bay pitching coach Mike Butcher averages three or four trips to mound every game; at this pace, he'll be ready to run in New York City Marathon in November, as shaky as the Devil Rays' relief pitching has been this spring.

          2) Later on this month, we'll be taking in couple of tourneys in spring basketball circuit, King of the Mountain and Gym Rat, both here in America's second-favorite city, as we move little closer to our annual vacation in Florida this July. For eleven days in late July, we'll watch some of the best high schoolers in America play ball, including OJ Mayo and Jeffrey Jordan.

          1) When Omar Minaya watches Jose Lima, Jeremi Gonzalez toe the slab as starters for the Mets in next few weeks, would like to know if he still think Anna Benson was that much of a nuisance, that her husband had to be traded?

My wife and I attended both Friday's and Saturday's games. Here's the oddest thing about Friday night. We played through 18 full before the curfew restrictions caused the game to be suspended at 1:25 am Saturday. But, at 1:30 am Saturday they went ahead with the postgame fireworks! Greer stadium is encircled by residential neighborhoods. The neighbors must have thought Bin Laden had given the order!!!! Good luck today, Spark!
