Dude, NO WAY! Francona can't hold a candle to Torre. And I really like the Sox but they won a series despite their Manager. For you to use the ALCS as a barometer is nuts- Torre lost games 4 and 5 with the Greatest reliever in the history of the game on the mound. He didn't have any starters for games 6 & 7 (Cashman again, not Torre's fault). He made the right moves. I imagine losing Game 7 of the 2001 series to the D-Backs was his fault too...Mariano blowing the save....

No one is perfect. Do you think Francona for example would have won as many WS as Torres had he been in his place, or coversely do you think Sox would have had a better chance of winning more WS with the likes of Torre of Grady Little or even Francona? I bet Torre would have had the smarts to take Pedro Martinez out when he was supposed to in that infamous game 7 of the 2003 playoffs, an error which ultimately cost the Sox the game and the series.

This implies to me that he is as good as Torre. You are right, you never said better. But I don't think Tito on his best days is as good as Torre on his bad days.

I bet you that he would have known when to take pedro out in game 7 in 2003.. Thats what managing is all about knowing when to take your pitcher out,knowing when to pinch hit,knowing when to hit and run, knowing when to steal a base... Thats what managing is all about.. Doesnt matter if you have a 10 Billion Dollar salary or a 1,000 dollar salary that IMO is what makes a manager good not the number of wins he has and IMO Torre is a very very good manager and ranks in the top 10 of best managers of all time..
