Lebron, Arenas been staging scoring war; two of three Cavalier wins in series have comes on Lebron hoops in final seconds of play, for 1-point wins. Change in strategy for Cavs in Game 5 had them make 32-43 from foul line, only 1-5 from behind arc, as they attacked hoop more. Cavs scored 97-97-121 in wins, 84-96 in losses, so Washington needs slower tempo.

Home team is 5-0 in Spur-King series so far, with Sacramento in unusually good form defensively at Arco, holding Spurs to 88.5 ppg in two games there. Spurs shot 57.5%-51.2%-57.4% in three games at Alamo, 46.1%-45.1% on road. Up to Artest to disrupt Ginobili and Bonzi to keep going off in his contract drive.

      Kentucky Oaks analysis
Capper Zeke's analysis of Friday's Kentucky Oaks:

      1. Balance - Going to be hard to go past probable favorite. Filly won two G-1 races in Santa Anita and then chased lone speed on Keeneland strip which always favors speed types. She should sit just off cheap speed and take over at the top of the lane.

      2. Wonder Lady Anne L - One of two fillies that have won at today's distance. Has been freshened up by Dutrow and has been training steadily at Palm Meadows facility. I'm a big fan of longer workouts and this filly has four 6 furlong works on her tab. She should be sitting mid-pack and making a strong run through the lane.

      3. Itty Bitty Pretty - Broke from outside post and ran evenly in return to racing following two-month break. Had no shot on speed surface. Regular rider Pat Valenzuela returns today and this filly will be tighter for today's effort and will make her presence felt in the stretch.

Possibly the best NBA game I've seen since the triple OT game between Suns, Celtics back in '76. Phoenix stared the Grim Reaper in the eye and spit in his face, surviving in OT at Staples Center. Huge shot by Tim Thomas to tie game.
-- Raja Bell's absence helped the Suns, in twisted fashion, as it allowed Kobe to go off more, creating quicker-tempo tilt, which is totally in favor of the Suns. Lakers are better off with balanced scoring, and Bell's excellent defense on Kobe forces them that way. Without Bell in game, Kobe tried to win game by himself.
-- Seven teams have come back from 3-1 deficits to win in playoff series; two of the seven did it vs Phoenix. Maybe this is their time to do it themselves.
-- Clippers are beneficiary of all this, as they sit back, wait for whomever survives this epic series.
-- In addition to Clippers, real winners are NBA and TNT, as they get a seventh game in their marquee series, although if Lakers get knocked out, then they both are big losers.
-- Too bad. I'd rather watch the Suns play, anytime.

Friday's List of 13: Idle thoughts on a perfect spring night
            13) I dislike individual awards in team sports, but if they have to give them out, why would anyone vote for Kobe Bryant for MVP? Sure he can get a hoop most anytime he wants, but how can a person who was half of a championship nucleus, then made sure the other half of the nucleus left the team, so he could be the lone focal point, be seen as an MVP? I don't get this.

            12) I mean, Shaq goes to Miami, Phil leaves, mostly because of Bryant, to the point where he ripped Kobe in his book; the only reason Phil came back is because his girlfriend's father owns the team. The Lakers were a finalist the last year Shaq was there, now they're #7 seed. Kobe is MVP? I think not.

            11) If I had a vote, would have voted for Nowitzki or Brand; Brand isn't flashy, but he is a rock and his steady leadership has lifted the Clippers to their highest level ever. He makes his teammates better. Bryant simply tolerates his teammates. …….as far as Dirk goes, if you were starting a team now, and were choosing between Dirk and Kobe, who would you take?

            10) We talked Wednesday about how, hopefully, NFL will allow Reggie Bush to wear #5, skirting the league's ill-advised numbering guidelines for players. This would be good thing for league that gets knocked a lot for taking the fun out of the game.

            9) In the 60's, San Diego had a QB (John Hadl) who wore #21 and a Hall-of-Fame receiver (Lance Alworth) who wore #19. What was wrong with this? It was quirky, and to me, quirky is good.

            8) Somewhere, Brian Bosworth is smiling; coming out of Oklahoma, the Boz wanted to wear #44, but wasn't allowed, because linebackers have to wear numbers in the 50's; he had to wear #55. He fought the rule and lost. A win here for Bush is a win for the Boz, even if it is fifteen years late.

            7) Doug Flutie wore #22 at Boston College, but wore #2 and #7 in the NFL. Bernie Kosar wore #20 at Miami, but wore #19 in the NFL. What harm did it do? Charlie Conerly wore #42 for the Giants in the 50's; people seemed to understand that he was the QB.

            6) I think fans are smart enough to figure out who plays what position. I mean, Paul Hornung wore #5, and we all know he was a running back (He was also a kicker for a while).

            5) By the way, the last regular player who doubled as the team's punter was Danny White of the Cowboys; Ingle Martin of the Packers has a chance to do this someday. He wound up his college career at Furman, but once played for the Florida Gators, where he played for another QB/punter, Steve Spurrier.

            4) Martin passed for 2,959 yards and 20 TD's for I-AA power Furman last year; he also punted 33 times for a 43.2 yard average. Martin could wind up pressing Aaron Rodgers someday to be Brett Favre's successor in Green Bay.

            3) Pistol Pete Maravich went to college at LSU, only because he couldn't get into NC State academically; his dad was head coach at NC State, and he couldn't get in!!! My, how times change.

            2) It took a while, but AD Lee Fowler, who was big fan of the former coach, Herb Sendek, finally got it right. Sidney Lowe is a good choice for NC State; he bailed out his alma mater, as he took Wolfpack job Thursday; NBA pedigree, an alumnus, he has some catching up to do, recruiting-wise, but we think he'll do a good job in Raleigh.

            1) Hey, I got a raise at work this week, but my annual salary is still less than what Alex Rodriguez makes in three innings. Go figure
