Monday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but...................
13) As the NFL Draft approaches in 12 days, I am adamant in my belief that Vince Young will be a great player, and teams that pass on chance to draft him will regret it, especially clubs that need a QB. To me, watching games is more important in scouting than any other factor.
12) Listening to SNY, the Mets-owned TV station, we enjoy the work of Ron Darling as color commentator a lot more than Keith Hernandez, though both are good.
11) Mets have very good team, but their fans are already full of themselves; when they play the Bronx team in interleague play, the obnoxious scale will jump off the charts.......
10) Even though the Mets are good, Kazmir/Zambrano and Benson/Julio trades both look like unmitigated disasters.
9) This is first time in history of Mets' franchise that they won their first four series in a season.
8) It is good that Tampa Bay swept the Royals to get to 7-6 in injury-riddled start to season, but enough with their mascot prancing on dugout with a broom-- show some class. This is a franchise that has never lost less than 90 games; act like you have been a good team, even if you never have been.
7) Not saying that the Royals' season is dead already, but the #3 hitter in their lineup is batting .097. They are not good-- if they lose less than 100 games, Buddy Bell might get votes for Manager of the Year.
6) When Prince Fielder was 12 years old, he hit a home run in Tiger Stadium. With a wooden bat.
5) The last Dodgers-Giants trade? December of 1985, a classic swap; Candy Maldonado for Alex Trevino.
4) When Giants start Bonds-Finley-Alou in outfield, it is the oldest starting outfield in major league history.
3) Why aren't home plate umpires better protected? Look at them back there; their arms are exposed; amazing they do not get broken wrists or arms more often.
2) We're heading to Houston Thursday for mini-vacation, and to catch the Astros, the PGA Tour and some spring hoops on the recruiting trail. Be sure to log on all weekend for reports from one of the busiest sports cities in America.
1) By the way the geniuses who say Vince Young won't be a good NFL QB because he did poorly on the test teams give to draftees? This is the same test that Ryan Leaf's score was 11 points higher than Dan Marino's. Enough said.
