Friday's List of 13: First impressions of '06 NFL schedule
Kickoff is a mere 22 weeks away, so never too soon to dive into the 2006 NFL schedule and see what we find………

        13) The Saints' first game back in the Superdome is a Week 3 Monday night game vs arch-rival Falcons and Michael Vick.

        12) Christmas night is the second TO Bowl, with Philadelphia visiting Dallas, in first game of TV twinbill (Jets-Miami is the other game); Owens goes back to Philly with the Cowboys in a Week 5, 4:15 game on FOX.

        11) Tom Brady gets chance to avenge his only career playoff loss when Denver visits Foxboro in a Week 3 Sunday night game.

        10) Arizona has almost always opened on road, because of the desert heat, but now that they have a beautiful new dome, they host the 49ers in Week 1, the Rams in Week 3, as they start season by playing their three division rivals.

        9) There are five late season Thursday night games, in addition to the traditional Dallas-Detroit Turkey Day games; none of the five are at warm-weather sites, including games at Green Bay and Pittsburgh.

Late season Saturday afternoon games appear to be obsolete, as Thursday games mentioned above replace them. There will still be 8:00 Saturday night games in the final few weeks of the season.

        8) As if Seattle didn't have a miserable enough time in Detroit for the Super Bowl, they open 2006 right back at Ford Field, although they at least get to play Lions instead of Pittsburgh. Seattle has faced Martz' offense a lot the last few years, so it should be little bit of an advantage for them there.

        7) Jets' new regime has their home opener against the Pats in Week 2. Mike Martz goes back to St Louis with the Lions in Week 4. Brad Childress' first game as head coach of Vikings is against his old team, the Eagles.

        6) Eagles play all three of their divisional foes on road in rare three-game road trip in December, after they play the Colts and before they play Atlanta. Very tough late season slate.

Cowboys also get nailed with the three road games-in-three weeks stretch, playing at Carolina-Washington-Arizona in Weeks 8-10. That third game has traditionally been tough game for the visitor.

        5) Bengals play at Kansas City, at Pittsburgh and host the Patriots before their Week 5 bye; they better hope Carson Palmer's knee is ready for start of season.

        4) Atlanta got crushed at home in Week 17 by Carolina, after the Falcons had already been eliminated; they open 2006 in Charlotte at the NFC South champs.

        3) Only four divisional games in Week 1, with Bears-Packers, Bills-Patriots on Sunday, before the 8:15 Manning Bowl (Colts-Giants). Only four divisional games in Week 17, too, with Bears-Packers rematch closing out the season.

        2) The first Monday night, September 11, has a twinbill, with Vikings-Eagles at 7, Chargers-Raiders in rare 10:15 eastern time kickoff

        1) Flex scheduling starts in Week 10 (Nov 12); no Sunday night games are listed for the last eight weeks (there will be no Sunday night game in Week 16- Christmas Eve), but one game in each of the other weeks will be moved to the 8:15 timeslot, to try and get most attractive matchup for NBC. Am guessing the schedulers would like to have known if Brett Favre was coming back before they released the schedule.
