Oliver Perez and his 25:24 K/BB ratio is back today making his first start since April 30th (pitch count?). Chicago has slammed six home runs in the first two games of this series. Meanwhile Jon Garland has an 11.57 ERA in three daytime starts this year. Chicago’s pitching has allowed 27 runs in their last four games. The Pale Hose are 31-12 ‘OVER’ the total the last three years following a one-run victory. The Padres are 10-2 ‘OVER’ this year on the road if the posted total is either 9 or 9 ½. San Diego is 6-1 ‘OVER’ on the road this season following a one-run loss (30-13 OVER after any defeat). Perez has given up eight home runs in 28 innings this year. San Diego’s pitching staff has a 6.26 road ERA this year and I sincerely doubt it will improve today with a rusty Perez who likely will be on a pitch count leaving the mop-up duties to a very fatigued and lousy bullpen still without Trevor Hoffman.
