Went 1-2 in baseball yesterday and went 1-1 on NCAA championship game getting screwed on the under. Here is what I have for baseball today:
Boston (+101) POD - Wakefield put up good numbers this spring going 1-2 with a 2.50 era, pitched 18 innings, gave up 15 hits 5 earned runs walked 6 with 14 strikeouts. Padilla was 0-2 with a 4.32 era, pitched 16.2 innings, gave up 19 hits and 8 earned runs. Walked 5 with 10 strikeouts. Padilla struggled last 2 years with the Phillies and his only outing against Boston last year pitched 2.2 innings, gave up 5 runs and 8 hits. Even though Wakefield has struggled at Arlington losing 8 of last 10 decisions, I'm taking Boston as a dog with good value today.
Atlanta (-125) - Smoltz looked great in spring training going 2-0 with a 1.96 era. Pitched 23 innings, gave up 19 hits and 5 earned runs. Only walked 3 and struck out 22. Penny was 2-2 with a 5.47 era. 24.2 IP, 32 hits, 15 ER, with 9 walks and 12 strikeouts. Smoltz is 15-12 with a 2.77era lifetime vs the Dodgers.
Yankees/Athletics over 8 (-125) - Mussina hasn't looked good the last 2 years and struggled this spring going 1-1 with a 7.32 era. Pitched 19.2 innings, gave up 26 hits, 16 earned runs with 6 walks and 13 strikeouts. Harden looked good going 1-0 with a 1.29 era 14IP, 2 ER, 6 walks and 19 strikeouts. However, Harden has been hit hard by the Yankees going 0-2 with a 6.10 era in 2 starts last year vs NY. I believe the Yankees lineup is unbelievable and Oakland should get their share of runs against Mussina.
White Soxs -1 runline (-106) - Something to follow at work after lunch. Garcia was 2-0 with a 2.63 era in 4 starts against Cleveland last year. Westbrook was 0-4 with a 5.13 era in 5 starts against Chicago last year with the Indians losing all 5 of his starts. Chicago was 14-5 against the Indians last year.
