Tuesday's List of 13: Random thoughts on a rainy Tuesday
Two of the three officials who worked Florida-UCLA game are from Albany (America's second-favorite city, behind Las Vegas), making my hometown, at least for one night, the #1 city in America for college basketball refs. College ball has it all over the NBA when it comes to referees. Why is that?

        13) Wow, what a lousy set of three games at the Final Four; I was very surprised that Florida just had lot more energy than UCLA, and easily won what I thought would be a close game. Bruins' big men were brutal early, failing to finish some plays that could have kept them in contact in first half.

        12) Florida's first four shots were all great looks at the basket, shots that LSU never got Saturday. When game was 4-4, you could tell Florida was having their way on offense, as Green was getting anywhere he wanted with dribble, compromising UCLA's defense. This was simply no contest.

        11) Billy Donovan joins elite company; he and Dean Smith are only guys to play in Final Four and coach a champ, and only Bob Knight was at a similar age when he won title at Indiana.

        10) The reason some of these games are so bad is that teams have become so flawed, with younger players taking over as the stars go earlier and earlier to NBA. All these teams, even Florida, are lot more fragile than past championship teams, so when team like UCLA finally gets beat, they get beat bad.

        9) In 1982, North Carolina had Jordan, Worthy, Perkins; you think they'd struggle beating any of this year's teams?

        8) Florida is first team since late 60's to win both semis, finals by 15+ points. Georgetown was only team of six opponents in tournament who really challenged the Gators.

        7) Anyway, congrats to Coach Donovan and the Gators, team that lost 60% of its scoring from last year, but played as team and now has won a national title. If they keep their guys from going pro, they have good shot at a repeat title.

        6) Seattle Mariners used seven different catchers last year, who combined to hit .216.

        5) Only Royals could have a promising 22-year old pitching ace walk out of camp because he's lost his love of baseball. Rumor has Zack Greinke trying to hone his golf game for the PGA Tour. The guy was their ace last year.

        4) Rondell White is playing for Twins this year, his seventh team in last seven years.

        3) Barry Zito pitches scared against the Bronx team, and you never beat up a bully when you're scared. He's lost last eight starts vs Bronx, and is usually awful against them. Monday, he got four outs on 59 pitches. Great start to the season.

        2) Cincinnati Bengals are unsure if Carson Palmer's knee will be ready to start season, but they've yet to sign a decent QB to be a backup. Harrington? Collins? A rookie? Hello?

        1) With college hoop over now, make sure to keep logging on to this website; the NFL schedule is due out later in the week, and we're going to get involved in analysis of all 32 teams in the NFL, as far as their '06 schedule, and what they need to improve on from their '05 seasons, so that will be educational
