Sunday's List of 13: Comments on variety of subjects......
              13) Not much to say about national semifinals; Mason didn't shoot well in dome, and Florida won without a big game from its star Noah........LSU picked very bad day to play badly; the Bruins' size completely thwarted Glen Davis.......Monday will be an outstanding game, I think. Analysis coming Sunday.

              12) Colonial Athletic Association had had perfect month until this week, when Old Dominion lost 66-43 in NIT semifinals, a couple days before NC-Wilmington coach Brownell quit to take the Wright State job; Wright State is better job than at a top-level CAA school? Then George Mason went without lot of noise Saturday, ending a dismal week for the CAA.

              11) The nitwits at NC State who wanted Herb Sendek out as hoop coach got their way Saturday, when the Tim Conway lookalike grabbed job at victory-starved Arizona State- with the recruiting period starting very soon, and a roster filled up with guys picked to play in Princeton offense, this isn't at all an easy job, especially with Roy and Coach K not only in the ACC, but both within 20 miles of Raleigh.

              10) Only two ACC teams have been in NCAAs in each of the last five years; Duke and NC State. Sendek can coach, but he isn't flashy, and the Princeton offense isn't always fun to sit and watch. But what was Wolfpack like before Sendek?

              9) If I had to guess who the Wolfpack turn to, I would say it would be State alumnus Dereck Whittenberg, who has done good job at both Wagner and Fordham.

              8) Speaking of Fordham, I'm watching Sonics-Lakers Friday, and it occurs to me: how on God's green earth does Bob Hill keep getting head coaching jobs? Hill left Whittenberg quite a mess at Fordham, and three years later, he's a head coach in the NBA? Exactly what is in the Starbucks out in Seattle?

              7) Indiana had won two national titles before Bob Knight ever coached there, so in turning their back on the Knight Tree of Coaching, its not like Indiana turned their back on their whole history, just the most recent successful chapters.

              6) CBS ran list of ten best college hoop games ever Saturday, but left out Maryland-NC State ACC title game in '74, where both teams were ranked in top 5 of country, but only winner went to NCAAs, because thats how it was then. Both teams scored 100+, NC State won in OT, and won the national title. There are people on Tobacco Road who still think this was the greatest game in college basketball history, period.

              5) Of the ten games CBS chose, UCLA lost three of them and won zero; this from a school that won seven titles in row and ten overall under John Wooden- they hardly ever lost!!!!

              4) 19 of the 20 biggest high school gyms in US are in Indiana; the gym Steve Alford played in seats 9,523. Seriously.

              3) Only four of the thirty GMs in major leagues played in the big leagues. More and more Ivy Leaguers are creeping into baseball, like they teach Stratomatic at Harvard or something.

              2) Orioles haven't had 20-game winner in last 22 years; in '71, they had four 20-game winners in one season.

              1) Heard at a bar Friday night: "I'm a drunk, not an alcoholic. Alcoholics go to meetings."
