Saturday's NCAA games
For season, George Mason scores 25.8% of its points on 3's, but last weekend, in winning third, fourth straight tilts, they scored 34.2% of their points behind arc, making 50% of 3's both games, highly unusual. Problem for them here is that in a dome, unlike arenas in Dayton, DC, is that shooting from the arc is a lot more difficult (Villanova was 8-39 from arc in Metrodome a week ago) and Florida is superior inside with Noah, Horford. Gators played in dome last week; they were 9-30 from arc. Donovan has won a national semifinal (in this arena). I think Mason is legit, but they made lot of tough shots vs UConn, basically playing at home, and I don't think those shots fall here. I have pick in box below.
UCLA plays slow, ugly games, as we learned the hard way last week; faster the game, better for LSU team that is more athletic than you think. Bruins won eleven in row since dropping back-to-back games to Washington, USC in mid-February; both clubs are quicker outfits, like LSU. Only LSU loss recently was in SEC tournament to Florida. Tigers are last in entire nation in percent of points scored behind arc, so dome won't hurt them. UCLA is leaving California for first time since Feb 11. Unless Bruin big

Saturday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but.............
13) Every NFL team plays two preseason games at home; the Superdome won't be ready in August, so Saints will play in Shreveport (vs Dallas) and Jackson, Mississippi (vs Colts). The always-savvy NFL sent two marquee teams to help out with attendance.
12) If this had been baseball, they would have sent Kansas City and the Nationals.
11) If I run the Jets and many of my games are played in cold/ lousy weather, I have serious questions about Matt Leinart: Has he ever played in cold weather? Whats worst weather he played in- the fog game at Oregon State two years ago? How do you simulate that in your workouts, if you don't know the answer?
10) Jean Van de Velde won his first golf tournament since bungling the British Open a few years back, when he won a European Tour event last week; even then, with a 4-stroke lead on 18, the Frenchman double-bogeyed the final hole, keeping things interesting.
9) On March 19, a rain delay during NASCAR race in Atlanta got better TV ratings than a Lakers-Cleveland game and a pro golf tournament.
8) Kelvin Sampson's first job at Indiana: Make sure DJ White and Robert Vaden stay at Indiana, especially if Mike Davis gets the UAB job.
7) Let me see: Sampson goes to Indiana, replacing Davis, who might replace Mike Anderson at UAB, who steps in for Quin Snyder at Missouri. If Davis gets the Blazers' job, does this mean Sooners are obligated to hire Snyder, to complete the circle? (they're not)
6) More proof that football is king: Kansas is spending $31 million to upgrade its football facilities.
5) Devil Rays aren't charging for parking at Tropicana Field this year. If they really wanted to do something for their fans, they'd petition baseball to get moved out of the AL East.
4) Last starting pitcher to win AL Rookie of the Year? Dave Righetti, 1981.
3) Braves won their division fourteen years in row; still, if you bet on them heads-up against the Mets this year, you can get Atlanta at +129.
2) Jason Kendall didn't hit home run for A's last year, but with Oakland visiting Coors Field June 19-21, maybe be will in '06.
1) Barry Zito's ERA last year was 3.86, worst mark of the five guys who will make up the '06 Oakland rotation.
