Cardinals' last loss was on this court in Big East tourney, when Pitt blew them out in first half, then held off last UofL rally in the second half. Tuesday's List of 13: Random thoughts on a spring day
        13) Would it be possible for ESPN to spread their college basketball coverage around to include teams from other leagues (CAA, MVC, more SEC)? Do we have to see every Duke game? CSTV has Conference USA, FOX has the Pac-10. It'd be enlightening to see more of these teams play before Championship Week.

        12) I mean, the CAA has teams in Boston (Northeastern), Philly (Drexel), Long Island (Hofstra) and ton of teams in Beltway area, including George Mason. You'd think they could land some kind of TV deal.

        11) By the way, I looked up in the Albany phone book; there is a Georgeanne Mason in the area, but no George Masons.

        10) There are eight college hoop teams playing this week: four in NIT, then the Final Four in Indy. Three SEC teams, two CAA teams, one Pac-10, one Big 11, one Big East, and that Big East team is from Kentucky. (Louisville).

        9) UCLA-Memphis game, with 95 total points, had fifteen less total points than any other regional final since the shot clock was put in.

        8) I am surprised at the number of critical comments I heard about Adam Morrison and JJ Redick crying after their teams lost last Thursday. Some of the comments were fairly mean- it just surprised me, that's all.

        7) Quick baseball prediction: Jim Leyland does better running the Tigers in Detroit than Joe Girardi does with the Marlins in Florida.

        6) Are the Marlins moving to the Alamo? Florida opens in Houston next week, where seven political bigwigs from San Antonio will be watching the games with the Marlins' owner Jeffrey Luria. San Antonio has had a Texas League team for years, but they're starving for big league sports to join the Spurs, having whiffed on luring the NFL's Saints to town, at least for now.

        5) NFL teases us with early release of a few key '06 games: Miami at Pittsburgh is the now-traditional Thursday night opener (Sept 7).

        4) First Sunday night game: Manning vs Manning (Colts at Giants).

        3) First Monday night card will have two games: 7pm Vikings-Eagles…..10:15, Chargers-Raiders, as Philip Rivers makes his Bolt debut in national spotlight.

        2) Three Thanksgiving Day games for first time since before the AFL-NFL merger, with Dolphins-Lions in opener, then the Bucs-Dallas, then Broncos-Chiefs on NFL Network helping us wash down our turkey.

        1) How much egg on their face do Billy Packer and Jim Nantz have this week, having to work George Mason game? They actually called the Patriots frauds on Selection Sunday, now they're in the Final Four. Whoops.

Couldn't argue with this at all. In my opinion, Leyland will be at an advantage in that he'll have Pudge on the field to visibly demonstrate the mental toughness that Leyland has always required. If enough of the young guys can see the sense in Leyland's method, the Tigers could easily show themselves to be the most improved team in the league.

One thing is certain. Leyland teams (majors and minors) have always been a ton of fun to watch and that won't change no matter how the season goes.
