SAN FRANCISCO (40-24) at CHI WHITE SOX (29-35)
SFO K RUETER -L (7-1, 3.42 ERA) vs CWS B COLON -R (6-5, 3.68 ERA)
The Giants and White Sox finalize their three game series in Chicago. In Wednesday's game between the two teams, Jesse Foppert pitched one-hit ball and struck out a career-high 10 in 7 1/3 strong innings, leading the Giants to an 11-4 win over the White Sox as +130 road underdogs. Pedro Feliz hit a grand slam and Barry Bonds added a two-run shot for the Giants, who bounced back from Tuesday's 5-3 loss in the series-opener to win for the fourth time in five games. Ray Durham drove in three runs and scored twice for the Giants, while Jose Cruz Jr. added two hits, an RBI and two runs scored. Aaron Rowand hit a three-run homer for the White Sox, who had a three-game win streak stopped. Foppert (4-5) won for the second time in three starts. He surrendered just one run and walked five, but didn't give up a hit until Armando Rios singled with two outs in the fifth. Mark Buehrle (2-10) has lost two straight starts and is 0-9 in his last 12 outings. He was roughed up for eight runs on six hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings. The lefthander has not won since April 10 against Cleveland. The Giants took a 4-0 lead in the first on one swing of the bat. After Buehrle retired the first two batters, an infield single by Durham and walks to Bonds and Benito Santiago loaded the bases for Feliz, who connected for his first career grand slam. Buehrle settled down until the Giants reached him again for four in the fifth. Marquis Grissom singled with one out and Neifi Perez followed with a double. Durham then knocked in both runners with a base hit and Bonds followed with a drive over the wall in right field for his 17th homer and an 8-0 cushion. Cruz doubled in a run and scored on a sacrifice fly by Grissom in the sixth to make it 10-0. Durham added a sacrifice fly in the eighth for the final San Francisco run. The White Sox finally broke through with four in the bottom of the eighth. Josh Paul walked with one out to end Foppert's night. Paul then scored on a two-out double by Jose Valentin and Frank Thomas reached on an error before Rowand belted a three-run homer. Tonight's pitching matchup features Kirk Rueter of the Giants against Bartolo Colon of the White Sox. Rueter is the ace, the stopper, and he's having a great season. Rueter has won five straight games, including a 5-3 decision over Detroit his last time out. He gave up two homers, but scattered eight hits. Amazingly, Rueter has a 22-6 lifetime record in June. It will be hard for Colon to top Saturday's effort against the Dodgers, using 87 pitches to earn the complete-game victory in Los Angeles. Colon has been a workhorse all season for the White Sox pitching staff, ranking second in the American League behind Toronto's Roy Halladay in innings pitched. All of Colon's pitches were working against the Dodgers, and he rarely missed his location.
