Sunday's List of 13: Random thoughts on all kinds of stuff
    13) The great Earl Monroe was on CBS' broadcast of the D-II title game Saturday; he admitted that he prefers college ball to the NBA, and he made couple interesting observations.......

    12) Monroe, the Bullets/Knicks' star from early 70's, said there were no weightrooms when he played, but that more guys in today's game are hurt than back when he played.

    11) He also indirectly blamed ESPN for today's more selfish player, saying that certain stations show highlights, and kids play to make those highlights. Good to hear someone who is prominent as Monroe speak the truth.

    10) When Ole Miss presented Andy Kennedy with an offer to be its head hoop coach, he never even looked at the cash amount, just accepted the job. Not sure thats smart, but it is someone who really wants and deserves to be a head coach.

    9) Memphis came out too fired up; they were hurrying; in the words of John Wooden, instead of being quick. A long uphill struggle for team that had its own way just about the whole season, and a young team at that. They'll be better next year for the disappointing experience they had Saturday.

    8) It is one thing to beat up on weak sisters like East Carolina, Rice and SMU all winter, then beat #'s 16,9,13 seed in NCAA, but you have to score more than 45 points in a regional final.

    7) UCLA left door open with pathetic foul shooting in 1st half but Memphis never hit a trey until last 0:14; they played last ten minutes in state of near-panic, as if they were watching scoreboard with every pass or shot. Bruins were no better on offense than on Thursday, but their defense was way better.

    6) Memphis' loss extends streak to seven years since the #1 seed in West region made the Final Four.

    5) LSU is very deceptive team; because Glen Davis is so big, you get impression they tire easily, but in fact, they're getting stronger as tournament goes on, and they're getting better in second half of their games. Tigers are 1.5-point favorite over UCLA in semifinals at Indianapolis next week.

    4) Texas is always tough team for me to gauge; they seem to play tense, not just this year, but since Barnes has been the coach. Now, they've also won ton of game under Barnes, so maybe it is just me, but in close games, they seem tentative.

    3) Big 12 North got lot stronger this week, with K-State hiring a winning coach, and now Missouri adding Mike Anderson's running, pressing style; tremendous hire by them.

    2) Am curious when player like Amare Stoudemire returns to a team after extended absence, how disruptive is it? Suns are obviously better with him, over long haul, but in short term, how many games does it take for them to be comfortable?

    1) How cool is Arena Football? Philadelphia beat Dallas 55-51 stopping the Desperadoes on 1-yard line on game's final play and team president Ron Jaworski is on field after the game, hugging players and coaches. Even in the AFL, Philadelphia and Dallas don't like each other.
