              Saturday's NCAA games
Underdogs are 10-2 vs spread in regional finals last three years.

LSU played two guys 40 minutes Thursday, a third for 38, so bit concerned about Tigers vs most athletic team they've seen, but Tigers held Duke to 27.7% from floor Thursday- threy held Iona to 37.7% in first round, Texas Aggies to 41.5% in second round, so their defense has been dominating. LSU is 5-3 vs spread as a underdog this year. Texas has five losses this season, giving up 82,81,46,97,95 points in those games- they played one SEC team in regular season, losing at home to Tennessee 95-78. Underdog is 11-5 vs spread in Southeast region final the last sixteen years. Dome setting favors a low scoring game.

Since 1987, favorite is 14-11-1 vs spread in regional finals pitting 1-2 seeds (0-2-1 last three years). Memphis drilled UCLA 88-80 on Nov 23 in New York (-7), as Tigers led 51-34 at half and shot 53% from floor for game. Bruins forced 19 turnovers; Farmar had 28 points for UCLA team that had injury issues back then. So far in this tournament, Memphis has played 16-9-13 seed, so this is major step up in class. Bruins won last ten games, but struggled mightily Thursday, before pulling off miracle late. Underdog has covered seven of last eight West region finals.

Saturday's List of 13: Short takes on springtime Saturday
                    13) Washington got hosed bigtime Friday night; in first half, Calhoun intimidated the refs, even though his team took 21 foul shots; then he got every call down the stretch.

                    12) For the game, UConn was 34-47 from foul line; of other 15 teams in this round, no one took more than more than 27 FTs.

                    11) Bigtime entertainment Friday, though, as three of the four games were awesome; only George Mason-Wichita was dud. Shockers were 3-24 from arc in losing to Mason for second time in six weeks.

                    10) Why do teams play man-to-man defense when other team has ball out of bounds under their basket? Villanova got easy hoop vs Boston College's man defense with :03 left, second time this year Wildcats beat someone like that. In years past, teams played zone out of bounds under, but now, it isn't the manly thing to do to play zone. It makes no sense. Not smart.

                    9) BC was 8-17 from foul line and lost in OT, with four guys playing 40+ minutes. A bitter defeat.

                    8) Villanova was just 4-19 from arc, but they gutted out win.

                    7) Louis Orr is better off without Seton Hall; Pirates weren't supposed to be good this year, Orr was supposed to be fired, but then Hall went 18-12, and he got fired anyway. Whatever booster runs Pirates' athletic department doesn't like Orr and wanted him gone, so he is gone, but he isn't a bad coach at all

                    6) That said, his career record is 1-5 in Big East tourney, then 1-3 in NIT/NCAA games, but not like he coaches at Duke or Kentucky. His career record is 80-68 and he is a good guy.

                    5) This is why coaches bend/break NCAA rules, when 18-12 is not good enough record to keep your job.

                    4) Back to UConn, they shot 10-19 from arc, 52% from floor in game, and were 34-47 from line, yet they needed OT, because they turned ball over 23 times in first 25 minutes. Much like UCLA-Gonzaga, team that plays better doesn't always win.

                    3) UConn, Memphis were only teams in Sweet 16 to make half their shots. Huskies survived 26 turnovers, but they had only three in the last 15:00 of game.

                    2) Davis Love shot 65 Thursday, 83 Friday. Golf is difficult.

                    1) There is a kid, #11 on Winona State, who is playing in the Division II national title game with broken bone in his leg. I wonder if he'd play leftfield, if someone offered him $10 mill?
