Monday's NIT games
Notre Dame lost 71-67 at home to Michigan Dec 3 (-3), first of 10 Irish losses by six or less points this season. Irish were just 6-20 from arc in that game, but they're 6-3 in last nine games, and 6-1 vs spread as road underdog this season. Michigan's win in the first round vs UTEP was just their third in last nine games- you watch them play, and they don't always play hard. Wolverines shot 11-21 from arc in their first round win vs UTEP.
Hofstra is 12-2 in last fourteen games, losing to NC-Wilmington twice; they held Nebraska to 34.5% from floor in first round win, now visit St Joe's squad that lost A-14 title game at Xavier 62-61 then easily beat Rutgers in first round of NIT, 71-62, holding the Knights to 36% from floor. Hofstra won at LaSalle, in only win vs A-14 team. Hawks won nine of their last ten games; they won only game vs CAA team, by 10 over crosstown rival Drexel.
People in Missouri Valley have to be happy with both Wichita, Bradley in Sweet 16; Creighton gets an ACC team in their gym here, so added motivation for Bluejays, 2-4 in the last six games after first round win vs Akron (71-60; Zips 35.5%). Miami lost four of its last five games away from home; they're 3-7 in the last ten games overall. Miami shot 37% from floor in first round win but forced 22 turnovers to hold off Oklahoma State, 62-59.

Missouri State was 2nd seed in MVC tourney; they're thinking they could be in Sweet 16 had they just gotten a chance. Bears won seven of last nine games, covered seven of last ten as fave at home. Houston plays fast, so this game will go up and down; Cougars are 3-3 in last six games; they're 4-3 as road dog in '06, winning at LSU in November. Both teams forced 20+ turnovers in their last game.
Manhattan won nine of last twelve games, but quick turnaround after Saturday morning win at Maryland (87-84), as Jaspers got outrebounded 51-33 but forced 20 turnovers vs less-than-into it Terrapins. Old Dominion is only team left in NIT that has won a road game, winning 79-61 at Colorado, getting to line 41 times. ODU beat MAAC runnerup Marist 84-71 in Bracketbuster (-8).
