  • Important Info about the Leach Bill (Goes before Congress Wednesday)

THIS WAS WRITTEN BY JAY COHEN:

I would like to introduce a new site. It debunks the myths and false claims that some politicians raise as concerns about online gambling. Feel free to quote from it in any letters you send to Congress.

    http://www.onlinegamblingmythsandfacts.com/

TIME TO STAND UP AND BE HEARD. LET THEM KNOW YOU VOTE, YOU PAY TAXES, YOU GAMBLE ONLINE, AND YOU ARE OPPOSED TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TRYING TO BLOCK YOU FROM ENJOYING YOUR HOBBY.

Tomorrow the Leach bill (H.R. 4411, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006) is going before the House Financial Services Committee for "mark up." Maybe they will discuss it, maybe they won't. Members may or may not try to add amendments and carve outs. They will then vote up or down. If it passes, barring another House committee claiming jurisdiction, it will be free to go to the House floor at the discretion of the House leadership.

The Leach bill (H.R. 4411, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006) outlaws financial transaction for internet gambling. It exempts certain government favorites but clearly makes financial transactions with offshore sportsbooks and casinos illegal.

The time is now to stand up and let your voice be heard. Please call or write your Representative and tell them you are opposed to the Leach bill, H.R. 4411, and the Goodlatte bill, H.R. 4777, The Internet Gambling Prohibition Act.

It's probably best to call today (AND write if you have time).

Call (202) 224-3121 and give them your zip code. They will connect you to your Representative's office.

To write follow the instruction at this link:

    http://www.house.gov/writerep/

IF YOUR REPRESENTATIVE IS ON THIS COMMITTEE, THE EARLIER YOU CALL THE BETTER.

Re: Leach bill, H.R. 4411 and Goodlatte bill, H.R. 4777

You're kidding, right? These guys can't possibly be serious. If these measures pass, sports betting will just return to local books on a "cash only" basis.

Why not start taxing the winnings of those of us who really are good at it and apply the revenue toward the largest deficit in human history? The tax revenue that has been lost, along with the hundreds of thousands of our jobs that have left the country, must be regained somewhere. This could help. I would gladly pay a lawful tax on gambling winnings just as I do on all other gains.

If either Leach or Goodlatte have ever put on any country's uniform and done a part for freedom, these wastes of time are even less understandable. This sounds like a couple of life-long civilian play-it-safers trying to act as if they're accomplishing something.

Where can I find out who among the House members are veterans? I need to know what the people who have actually shown some real guts in this life think about these measures.

Please, Rep. Blackburn, vote against this latest affront to freedom of choice.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Yours in good faith and hope,
