  • is McNamara overrated??

syracuse's coach Jim B. defended against those accusations.....i wonder what everyone thinks....

i think he is very good and gritty.....i think he gets the most out of his talents....but with a weak surrounding cast he may try to do too much

I think he's gonna be a great role player in the NBA.

I just don't think he can be the go to guy, not enough talent...but he'll hit the 3's when needed.

Reminds me of a bigger Steve Kerr. If he can accept his role as NOT the go to guy all the time, I think he can be successful.

And as i say that...it's not a knock on him...

I honestly think Boeheim made up that story in some way to try and get his team fired up to play UConn. He knew that is was a must win game for his team if they were to have any chance of getting in the NCAA. I would not be suprise if he wrote the article in the Syracuse school newspaper.
I hate Francisco Cabrera for life!!!!!

I don't disagree with that at all.

There was some extra motivation with that news conference.

I don't think that McNamara is overrated. He's been a key cog for Syracuse all four years that he's been there, and perhaps because we have heard about him for those four years that it seems like a broken record. I think the accolades he has received have been well deserved. He scores off of the jumper, which means he doesn't lead the team in scoring every game as he has off nights, like many shooters. However, as a fan of a rival Big East team, I give him a lot of respect and know that he can make the clutch play. He also plays with a lot of heart and wins and loses with class.

As for Boeheim making that story up...I highly doubt that. If you couldn't get up for today's game, then you should not be playing in the Big East, or any D-I school. Today's game was the reason you play college basketball.

I like the Steve Kerr comparison...very good.

As for making up the story and article...not a chance. It was also in the Syracuse local player and it was part of a poll of 15+ Assistant Coaches in the Big East with the question being asked 'who is the most overated player in the Big East' and GMac won by a 2-1 margin...this was according to Mike & Mike in the Morning on ESPN Radio.

That’s right. Like boxing , everyone wants to be undefeated, this game doesn’t work like that!

he is A LOT more athletic than Steve Kerr.. He has a handle and can pass.. double digit assists today. the Kerr comparison is just cuz he is white and can shoot. Kerr was simply spot up catch and shoot.

I tjhink he'el be another Kidd or Nash in the NBA----he can handle the ball well, is smart, gritty as hell, and can get hot on 3's---IMO---kapt

No telling what he could do when playing with and against equal talent----I think he blossoms into a good one in the NBA---kapt

G-Mac is the Syracuse team. He is not only a great 3 shooter, he is also the leading scorer and assist leader on the team.
He has played four years as a starter, and has not ever placed any blame on their losses on anyone but himself. His teammates respect him as a player, but worship him as a leader. No other player in Syracuse basketball has exemplified the word "Leader" as has G-Mac.In my opinion, he is saving his best games for last...and the damage has just started to be made by this young Syracuse team.
Syracuse probably won't win the Tourney, but it won't be because of G-Mac's play...he never gives up!
Syracuse's largest problems this year lay in their young forwards...they don't have size and strength like their East counterparts, but they do have fight! I would take them every game here on out.
I think G-Mac is under rated, and that article in the Orange Newspaper was probably a motivational tactic to get them moving, IMO.

Don't disagree with that...but his role won't be driving the lane with the big trees in the middle like an iverson.

He'll be a 3 point specialist. He doesn't have the ball handleing skills to be a point guard.

I'm not doggin the guy, just trying to compare him to what I think his role will be.
