Florida lost three of last four games (losses by 4,4,5 pts); they're 2-4 in last six away games, but they beat Kentucky at home four weeks ago, 95-80 (-7). Gators are 0-1 as SEC underdog this year. Wildcats won four of last five games (4-0 vs spread in last four) but they're 1-6 as SEC home favorite (4-3 SU at home).

Syracuse got crushed in last two games, losing 68-53/108-69 in a pair of road disasters; Carrier Dome is sold out for this game, in honor of McNamara's last home game. Orange lost 80-65 Jan 21 at Villanova (+8.5); they're 4-7 in last 11 games. Villanova is 12-1 in last thirteen games, 6-1 SU on Big East road.

Temple is lousy on road, but they won last five home games by 16,2,29,24,8,39 pts; they're 5-0 as A-14 home favorite. Fordham is 1-4 in last five games, 1-4 as road dog, losing away games in the league by 5,13,10,20,5 pts. Only two of Rams' losses in A-14 are by more than 11 points.

Florida State is 2-5 on ACC road, but they've won three of last four and beat Duke, so they can solidify NCAA bid with a win here.

Rutgers bought their coach out this week, not good; they lost at home to St John's 17 days ago, 54-51 (-6), and are 1-6 last seven road games, winning only at 1-15 South Florida. Red Storm lost eight of last ten games; they're 1-1 as home favorite, but scored just 53 ppg in last four games. Not much to choose from here.

Missouri lost four in row, 10 of last 11 games; Senior Night isn't lot of fun when you've fired the coach. Tigers lost 65-52 in first meeting vs Huskers this year,as 4-point road dog. Nebraska lost five of last seven games; they're 4-3 as Big 12 road dog, losing away games by 42,22,19,11, but they've won three road games.

Arkansas won last four games, with an upset win at Tennessee, just their second win on SEC road in seven tries. Hogs been winning close games, as three of their last four wins are by 4,2,4 points.

Maryland lost six of last nine games; they're 0-6 vs spread their last six games- they failed to cover last three tries as home dog, but they did beat Virginia 76-65 at home Feb 7 (-6.5). Cavaliers lost 99-54 in last game, their sixth loss in last nine games- they are 1-5-1 vs spread last seven games, but won last five at home.

Texas is bully team; they're 5-2 as Big 12 home favorite, winning in Austin by 25,34,34,13,19,27,25 pts; they lost 82-72 at Norman Jan 28 (-3), and Sooners are hard to bully, winning last four in a row, all by one point (is that some kind of record?). Oklahoma is 3-0 against spread as dog; their losses are by 1,2,1,9 points.

                        Conference Tournaments
                        Sun Belt Conference
Denver is 1-7 on Sun Belt road, 1-6 as road dog, but lone win is 72-62 win on this floor Feb 11 (+6); home side is 13-2 SU in their Sun Belt games this year. Middle Tennessee won seven of last nine games (7-1-1 vs spread) but Denver game is the only loss. Blue Raiders won their last four first round games.

South Alabama won last five games and eight of last nine; they covered last four- they won 65-58 at Little Rock Feb 2 (even), as Jaguars are 6-3-1 in last ten games as favorite. Ark-Little Rock is 2-7 in last nine games, but 5-2 vs spread as Sun Belt underdog; they held North Texas to 35.5% from floor in first round win.

Troy State shot 23-40 on treys in first round upset of Ark State; Trojans are 2-4 since last win vs ULL. UL-Lafayette won three in row, six of last seven games; they lost twice to Troy this year, 73-50 at home Jan 14 (-9.5) when Cajuns were playing awful bad, then 83-81 in OT at Troy, when Cajuns were playing better.

                        Missouri Valley
With Wichita, Missouri State probably in NCAAs, loser of this game in dire straits for at-large bid. Bradley won last six games; they're 10-2 in last 12. Southern Illinois is 3-9 vs spread in last 12 games, but they played solid defense last two days. Home side won both Bradley-Saluki games this year, with Braves winning 72-60 Feb 14, losing at Carbondale 67-55 Jan 8.

                        Colonial
UNCW won last six games (5-1 vs spread) are 16-3 in the CAA; they were 32-43 from line yesterday and held Delaware to 32.7% from floor. Seahawks beat Northeastern 46-44 at home in only meeting this year (-8.5) Jan 28. Huskies are 11-2-1 in their last 14 games vs spread, 4-2-1 as CAA underdog.

George Mason won ten of last 11 games, but they're 2-5 vs the spread in last seven games as favorite, and were taken to OT in first round scare vs 4-16 Georgia State. Hofstra's leading scorer is hampered by sprained ankle, but Pride won 11 of last twelve games; they beat Mason 77-66 at home 10 days ago (+1). Pride had two guys go whole 40 minutes last night.

                        West Coast Conference
Home team has won WCC tourney once in 19 years (San Diego in '03) so Gonzaga, hosting for first time, is on upset alert. Zags won 64-63 at USD Jan 21 (-4), then rallied on second half Feb 24 for 75-59 home win (down 2 at half). Gonzaga is 1-5 in last six as home favorite. Toreros ended four-game skid Saturday; they're 2-1 vs spread as WCC underdog.

St Mary's won six in row, eight of last nine games after 1-5 start in WCC; they beat rival Santa Clara last night. LMU got the #2 seed but stumbled down stretch, losing last four games, giving up 77.7 ppg. Lions lost 82-70 at Moraga Monday; they beat the Gaels at home, 78-70 Jan 23 (-1). LMU had bye last night.

                        Southern Conference
Chattanooga is 9-3 in this event the last five years, they are 6-1 in their last seven games overall. Davidson is 2-5 vs spread in their last seven games; they lost 65-59 at Chattanooga in only meeting Jan 23 (-6). Unimpressed by Mocs' late-game antics in semifinal win, as 16-pt lead with 4:00 left almost wasn't enough.

                        Metro Atlantic
St Peter's won last three games after 4-game skid, getting win on road last night; this is their third game in three days, while top-seeded Manhattan playing for first time since Sunday's big win over Iona. Jaspers won 81-74 at St Peter's Feb 8 (+1); also beat Peacocks 95-82 as 11-point home favorite Jan 8. Peacocks on a mission to honor deceased (last summer) teammate Jefferson

Iona lost 87-81 at home to Marist Feb 5, after winning 79-76 back on Dec 11 (-2). Marist is 13-2 last 15 in league, after an 0-4 start. Gaels are haphazard team that has trouble vs better coaches in league, of which Brady is one, but Gaels shoot 40% from the arc and they have three senior guards. Marist is the bigger team.

Posting Saturdays thoughts also ... Missed them yesterday ...

Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a busy Saturday.....
                          13) I have a new favorite college hoop team; Long Beach St, which trailed at Cal-Irvine 31-13 at second TV timeout, less than 9:00 in. But the 49ers can run all day, and they just blew by the Anteaters in second half. Lot of kids who can shoot it, and roster of kids who can run all day. Fun to watch.

                          12) I know the Big West isn't the strongest league, but Long Beach did go to Manhattan and win 108-94 a few weeks ago.

                          11) Bucknell, George Washington, Gonzaga were only three teams to get through their conference schedule undeafeated.

                          10) ESPN2 showed the whole Duke-Carolina game from angle above the backboard; it wasn't bad to watch.

                          9) You watch Long Beach run around like fire ants, then turn on a Missouri Valley Conference game and watch teams just pound each other for 40 minutes. Northern Iowa scored 46 in an OT loss to Southern Illinois-- Irvine had 31 in 9 minutes!!!

                          8) Congrats to South Florida, which upset Georgetown and avoided an 0-16 Big East season, sending Hoyas to Big East Tournament on a very down note.

                          7) Keydren Clark of St Peter's went over the 3,000-point mark in his team's upset win at Siena in the MAAC tournament; he is only the 8th player in NCAA history to score 3,000 points.

                          6) George Mason escaped disaster when they rallied to win in overtime against George Mason, 61-56; they face Hofstra in semifinals of CAA tournament; Hofstra had two guys play 40 minutes Saturday.

                          5) You get the idea watching Arizona play that Lute Olson is not having a lot of fun this year.

                          4) In 19-year history of WCC tourney, home team has won it once (San Diego, '03). This is first time Gonzaga has hosted.

                          3) Northeastern, in their first year in CAA, is now in semis of league tourney; had Huskies stayed in America East, they'd be 19-0 and this year's Vermont.

                          2) Instead of ESPNU's cameras being perched on students at the Duke-Carolina game for two hours, how about a camera just on Tyler Hansbrough's mom? Please?

                          1) The common wisdom is that great teams need three guys to consistently score in double figures. Duke is struggling in recent days, because they don't have three scorers, and ACC teams are athletic and knowledgeable enough to play solid D on Redick. Will teams outside of the ACC be?

Saturday's List of 13: Quick hitters on windy, sunny day
                          13) Gonzaga is hosting the WCC tourney for first time; why shouldn't they host now and then, especially since WCC will make financial killing in basketball-crazy Spokane?

                          12) Big East has 16 teams; seven don't play big-time football, nine do, but Notre Dame is independent, so why not split the league into two divisions for basketball? It would work.

                          11) Matt Doherty had a good first season at Florida Atlantic, but he made quick exit in Atlantic Sun tourney, losing in 3-6 first round upset to Stetson.

                          10) Chattanooga led by 16 at final TV timeout Saturday in the semis of Southern Conference, but had to withstand two tries for game-tying 3's by Appalchian State, as Moccasins put on a clinic of hideous basketball down the stretch, but still won.

                          9) Interesting article on cnnsi.com this week. Seton Hall isn't interested, it seems, in giving Louie Orr long-term extension, even though he has done very good job with Pirates this year and since their recruiting cupboard is bare, odds are Hall will not be good next year. So, if he doesn't get his extension, the article says, he should walk now, when he is more marketable.

                          8) Orr's nephew, Justin Orr, is pretty good player at Murray State. Racers play for Southern Conference title Saturday.

                          7) Big East announcers never, ever say a bad word about the league. Only a cynic would think they're coached that way.

                          6) Funny thing about college hoops; Wake Forest, Arizona St had dismal years this year, but if Chris Paul , Ike Diogu had stayed in school, they'd probably be in the tournament. Such is the reality for big-time coaches.

                          5) I wonder if the kids involved feel bad when their coach is canned, mainly because they left school early?

                          4) Lipscomb, top seed in Atlantic Sun, is coached by the son of former Alabama coach Wimp Sanderson.

                          3) I am curious how the low Division I teams capitalize on the rare chances they get to be on ESPN, or if they do capitalize, as far as recruiting goes.

                          2) In NFL, Detroit signed Shaun King as their #3 QB. If Mike Martz can turn King into a quality QB, that'd be something. it was because of King's ineptitude in '00 NFC title game that the Rams snuck out 11-6 win, and went on to win their Super Bowl title, which made Martz' name golden, for a while.

                          1) I'm tired of hearing hoop nnouncers say "Team A has to win this game to make the tournament." No one knows, not an announcer, not a coach, only the selection committee.
