  • AFL Tipping 2006

    Gday folks,

Phil McCreviss back in town and its good to be back. I mentioned a few months ago that I would be posting my AFL tips at the start of the season (thats Aussie Football for the uneducated). Over the last 3 seasons my tipping % has been well over 70% and I am hoping that continues this year. Just so you know, the AFL season proper doesnt start until early April however the preseason competition is under way and I would like to share my tips for those who would like to follow. So join the train to riches and best of luck :

    AFL Tip
Melbourne Demons to defeat Brisbane Lions @ $1.58

    Pros

The Demons are coming off a huge Friday night performance against the Dogs in stifling heat in Darwin. The Lions were expected to smash an undermanned Essendon at Carrara but fell over the line with unde 30 seconds to play and won by 1 point. The Lions are playing at the Telstra Dome, not a happy hunting ground for a team that likes the vast expanses of the Gabba. Most importantly (and the clincher for me) is that the Demons welcome back Neitz, Miller and ruckman Jeff White who is crucial to giving the Dees first use out of the middle. This factor should see a comfortable Demon victory.

    Cons

The only way I see the Lions getting up here is if the Demons fitness suffers from their gruelling effort in tropical Darwin. Melbourne has the personnel to make this a whitewash but if the game is tight, expect the Lions to run hard to make space. This could be taxing on the Demon players by the fourth quarter. The Lions have also included some top line players for this clash including key forward Daniel Bradshaw however this addition is offset with the resting of inspirational skipper Michael Voss.

I have $100 on the win but a good value bet is $30 on the line which is -9.5 points to the Demons.

ALERT ****Game starts in 1 hour****

Best of luck everyone. Will post my other tips tomorrow.

Gday Dan, nah mate I dont watch the union or league games. Where I am from in Melbourne the AFL is much more popular, we usually get about 120,000 people to our Grand Final (Aussie version for the Super Bowl) so its pretty big. Hope along for the ride, I am already one from one this weekend.
