  • Ricker #1 Wednesday's Pick

Total so far 7-6 0-2 last night, maybe tonight will be better.

1st Pick : Toronto Blue Jays over St. Louis Cards ***** Pick

Cory Lidle has been a beacon of light amidst a generally lousy Toronto starting rotation, near the top of the AL in wins, innings pitched, and walks + hits per inning.

The Blue Jays have won seven of his last nine starts, and he’s held his opponents to two earned runs or less in five of his last seven times on the mound.

Toronto’s pitching blew up yesterday, as the Cardinals scored 11 runs against them, but the Blue Jays still must be considered a very hot team, having won three out of four, nine of twelve and 22 out of their last 31.

The Blue Jays bats have carried them all season – three straight double digit runs scored games against Boston over the weekend being the latest example.

Even in a losing effort yesterday, they hit Cards ace Matt Morris as hard as he’s been hit all year.

St Louis starter Jason Simontacchi has only two wins on the season, with a 6.45 ERA to show for his ten starts.

He threw a gem against the Astros in his last start, but has yet to throw back-2-back quality starts in 2003, with only six more strikeouts than walks on the season to go along with the dozen homers that he’s allowed.

The Cardinals are 4-4 on their current homestand, 29-27 overall – basically a .500 team.

And they have been unable to get any kind of extended streak going – their current two game winning streak is their longest in over a month.

Look for the Blue Jays to get back on track today, worth supporting at an underdog price.
