Monday's List of 13: 13 things I learned this weekend
13) Villanova beat Georgetown by 10 Sunday, turning the ball over just three times, while making 12 of 27 treys. Pretty good guards Villanova has, but 3-point shooting comes and goes, which could be a problem come March.
12) Race cars on the NASCAR circuit weigh 3,500 pounds; if that was common knowledge, I apologize, but I didn't know.
11) Drviers can lose as much as ten pounds during a race, say the people who know such things.
10) Golf is a lot quieter than stock car racing.
9) Freddie Couples is very popular, but I have no idea why.
8) Couple of NBA players, from different teams, accused the Utah Jazz of overinflating the ball, because Utah relies less on jumpshots than most teams. Interesting.
7) Karl Hobbs has emerged as frontrunner for the Cincinnati job; the powers that be there are stupid not consider Andy Kennedy as a permanent replacement for Bob Huggins, but it looks like Kennedy will have to go elsewhere next season.
6) No matter if the coach is from Tennessee or Illinois, orange sport jackets are still very ugly.
5) Head coaches routinely do brief, pointless interviews with sideline reporters at halftime of games; even Bob Knight does them, although he usually storms off after saying his piece. Only Duke puts their third assistant (Chris Collins) on the air for a halftime interview. Why is that allowed?
4) USC has a new arena being built for next season, so they're only playing one more game in the Sports Arena, which was opened in 1959, and has a lot of history in it. Trojans have a great future ahead of them; Tim Floyd is an excellent coach.
3) After watching Hoosiers for the 50th time this weekend, I am more convinced than ever that Norman Dale was a nitwit. Once again, a coach is only as good as his players.
2) Someone did some serious drinking before designing this year's NBA All-Star Game uniforms.
1) My idea for the NBA All-Star game? Make coaches with the worst record in each conference coach game. Coaches with great records deserve the three days off. Make the poor souls who can't win a game work during their break.
