Boston College won 65-61 at Miami Jan 21, as Miami shot jusdt 35.5% from floor, despite making 10-24 treys. 'canes are 3-2 on ACC road, losing by 12 at NC State, 20 at Virginia, but beating Carolina, Florida St and Ga Tech; they allowed 83 ppg in losing last games, both at home. BC won eight of last nine games, but struggled vs Stony Brook Tuesday; they're 0-4 as ACC home fave, winning by 3,2,6 pts in five tries.

Western Kentucky won last six games (3-3 vs spread), with road wins by 1,1,5 pts; dogs are 4-0 vs spread in Hilltoppers' Sun Belt road games, with WKU 0-3 as road favorite. They beat Ark-Little Rock 74-70 Jan 12 (-15), making 10-20 treys, shooting 50% from floor. Trojans lost their last two home games, three of four overall; they're 2-3 SU in Sun Belt home games.

South Alabama won four of last five games; they're 4-1 vs spread on Sun Belt road, losing only at Denver (69-60). Visitor is 7-2-1 vs spread in their league games. Jags beat Troy 88-84 at home Jan 7 (-10.5), as USA made 15-35 treys, with just seven turnovers. Troy won last two games, both at home; they're 4-0 at home in league, winning by 27,13,4,2 pts.

UL-Lafayette won three of last four games after 1-7 start in Sun Belt; they're 1-6 on Sun Belt road, winning only at USA (59-53) but they beat New Orleans 60-53 at home Jan 23, making 27-41 from foul line (UNO was 13-19). Both teams made less than 33% of their shots in game. UNO covered four of five tries as Sun Belt road dog, losing road games by 19,7,21,15,4 pts, winning only at North Texas.

Arkansas State won last three home games by 12,23,1 points; they're 3-2 as home fave in league, also beating Denver by 11. Middle Tennessee needed OT to beat South Dakota St at home earlier this week; they got waxed at home in game before that, by Denver, who had been winless on Sun Belt road. MTSU won first meeting 77-68 Jan 12, thanks to +10 turnover ratio (10-20).

Washington lost last three road games by 2,9,13 pts; they're 1-4 vs spread in last five games, but did sweep LA schools at home last week, and beat Oregon 78-59 in first meeting on Jan 21, when Ducks were 5-20 from arc, shooting 39.3% for game. Oregon lost six of last seven games, including last four at home, by 7,6,1,2 pts; they're 2-5 vs spread on Mac Court this season.

Marquette is 4-1 at home in Big East, losing only to Cincinnati, beating UConn, Notre Dame, DePaul, St John's; they covered four of last five games, but lost last two, both on road, allowing 81.5 ppg. Georgetown just lost to West Virginia for second time; their first loss in last eight games. Hoyas are 3-2 on the Big East road (4-1 vs spread) losing only at West Virginia (68-61).

Oregon State lost last six games (0-6 vs spread) by 2,9,17,7,17,22 pts; they have issues at PG, and immobile big guys; Beavers' last win was 59-50 at Pullman Jan 21, as Wazzu was 1-16 from arc, shooting 37.5% from floor for game. Coogs lost last four road games, after winning in Seattle; they're 3-2 as road dog, losing by 2,5,10,2 pts. After being 8-1 at home in Pac-10 last year, OSU is 1-5 in '06.

UNLV is 4-1 at home in MWC, losing only to Air Force, winning other games by 10,11, 11,12 pts; Rebels lost 83-67 (+4.5) at Cox Arena Jan 14, a game Rebels led 38-32 at half. Aztecs were 31-37 from line in that game, UNLV 6-12. San Diego State got upset at home by Utah last game, ending 8-game win streak; they're 4-1 vs spread on road in MWC, losing only at Air Force (65-62).

Stanford covered its last nine games, losing twice last week, by 3,4 pts; Cardinal is 4-1 vs spread at home in Pac-10 (5-0 SU), winning by 14,2,14,10,9 pts, and is 5-1 vs spread as Pac-10 favorite. They beat Arizona St 70-64 in Tempe Jan 21, with Stanford outscoring ASU on foul line by 10 on road. Sun Devils covered last three road games, winning at Oregon State, USC, and three of last four games overall.

Arizona lost four of last five road games, winning only at ASU; Wildcats reinstated senior G Rodgers, who had been tossed earlier in year. Not sure what does to chemistry of team that beat Cal 60-55 at home Jan 21, as Wildcats won despite shooting 33% from floor (they were 16-23 from line, Cal 8-12). Bears won last five games; they're 5-2 vs spread in last seven, 4-1 SU at home, losing only to Oregon State.

Butler won seven of last eight games; they're 2-2-2 as Horizon home favorite, winning at Hinkle by 19,12,8,6,3,29 pts; they lost 74-64 at Loyola Jan 19, as Ramblers shot 62.5% from floor, made 6-11 treys. Loyola is 3-3 since that game (1-5 vs spread); they're 2-3 as road dog, losing road games by 6,14,3,10 pts; they're 1-4 vs spread this season in Horizon games that followed a win.

Citadel is 0-12 in Southern Conference, but 3-2 vs spread in last five games; only one of last five losses is by more than 11 pts. Bulldogs lost 77-65 at Charleston Jan 14 (+19), even though they shot 52.4% for game, and Cougars were 1-12 from arc. Charleston won three of last four road games after losing first two; they're 1-2 as Southern Conference road favorite, winning away games by 8,8,2 points.

Eastern Kentucky is 4-2 in last six road games after winning at Samford Tuesday, their second win in row; Colonels beat Jax State 86-78 at home Jan 19, shooting 57.9% from floor, making 9-17 treys. Gamecocks won six of last eight games, won last five home games by 2,5,5,15,9 pts, and are 3-2-1 as OVC home favorite (8-1-1 vs spread in last ten games overall). Third game in six nights for EKU.

Morehead State is 3-14 in OVC, but they covered nine of last 12 games, including five of last six on road; they lost 65-64 at home to Samford Jan 19 (+13.5), blowing big lead in last minute of game. Eagles hit 8-12 treys, shot 53.3% from floor that day. Samford was upset at home Tuesday by EKU, their second loss in row. Bulldogs covered one of last five tries as OVC home favorite.

Tennessee-Martin won last five games (4-1 vs spread), but four of five were at home; they're 1-6 in last seven road games, are 3-2-2 as OVC road dog. Skyhawks beat Tennessee Tech 88-78 at home two weeks ago, shooting 56.7% from floor, with just nine turnovers. Tech lost three of last four games and is 2-5 vs spread in last seven, 3-5 as home favorite, losing two of last three SU at home.

Senior Night for Tennessee State team that is 7-2 at home in OVC, winning last two at home; Tigers are 3-5-1 as dog in OVC, 0-1-1 at home- they lost 75-67 at Murray State Jan 5, shooting just 5-20 from arc. Racers won eight games in row (3-5 vs spread) and are 3-5 as OVC road favorite; they won last five road games by 6,7,1,17,15 pts, allowing average of 50.5 ppg in last two games.

Portland State lost last six games (1-5 vs spread) streak that started Jan 21 at home, in 68-66 home loss to Idaho State, when Bengals hit 10-20 treys and came back from 30-26 halftime deficit. Vikings are 0-5 on Big Sky road (1-4 vs spread) losing by 16,15,21,1,8 pts. Idaho State covered last three games, is 3-4 SU since Oliver announced he was quitting; they're 1-3 SU at home in Big Sky.

Montana State is 4-1 at home in Big Sky, losing only to rival Montana; their home wins are by 16,17,12,1 pts; they lost 78-72 at Flagstaff Jan 21 (+7.5). Bobcats had covered seven of eight in league, before losing pair of road games last week, by 11,9 pts. Northern Arizona is 11-1 in Big Sky, losing only at EWU (73-61) in four road games. NAU's road wins are by 6,4,2 points.

Thursday's List of 13: Nobody asked me but.................
13) Former BC/Ohio State coach Jim O'Brien broke the bank Wednesday, as court ruled that Ohio State wrongfully fired him he committed an NCAA violation, meaning that O'Brien gets the $3.5M owed him, plus interest. Bad day for the OSU athletic department, big day for O'Brien who is a good coach who should resurface pretty soon now.

12) Clippers miss Quinton Ross' defense; he is one of those guys we were talking about the other day, guys who defend, get loose balls, do little things that help teams win.

11) Why did Packers only give new coach Mike McCarthy a 3-year contract? Seems a little short to me.

10) If I were hiring coaches, I'd give a coach a four-year, rollover contract, meaning that after the first year, if job he did met with approval, he'd get that year rolled back over onto the end of his contract. If not, then he'd only have three years left on his contract. Makes a lot of sense.

9) Why do I love Arena Football? Utah Blaze scores 81 points at home Saturday, and lost, 84-81 against the New York Dragons. Only in Arenaball.

8) ESPN nitwits are now hinting that JJ Redick might be the greatest shooter in the ESPN era; take it easy, fellas. Reggie Miller, Glen Rice, Steve Alford, Steve Kerr all played on ESPN, people. Not even close.

7) College football teams will play 12 regular season games next year, which is creating some scheduling issues for teams in leagues that play conference championship games. Big 11 teams are playing 12 games in 12 weeks, highly unusual. Even NFL teams don't do that.

6) ACC teams all have to play on Thanksgiving weekend, so that no team can have an advantage by having week before title game off. this creates a problem for Clemson, which has never played on Thanksgiving weekend.

5) Pac-10 teams added 12th game with one stipulation; the extra game had to be a league game, so that for first time since Pac-8 became the Pac-10 (by adding Arizona schools in '78), all the teams will play each other next season.

4) Big East, which doesn't have a title game, picks up extra TV slots on first weekend in December, since their teams have more flexible schedules. Not that anyone wants to watch too many of those teams play, but still, it helps recruiting.

3) Starting in 2007, look for college football to start weekend before Labor Day, to give teams a chance to slot a bye week into their schedules.

2) This March is 20th anniversary of the '86 NCAA tourney, when a #6 seed (Kansas) won title, and teams like Cleveland State, Murray State and Ark-Little Rock all posted memorable upsets. This year's tournament could be just as wide open.

1) With Darko Milicic now on Orlando, we're finally going to find out if the young fella can play, after three years of being welded to Detroit's bench. Maybe he can play, maybe not, but at least we're about to finally find out.
