  • Sunday baseball........

We ended the month of May on a down note, going 0-2. But we can only hope for the same success in the month of June as we had in May. In the month of May we had 22 winning days and only 9 losing days. Lets start June off with a bang with a double dose of 5 STAR action!!!

5 STAR: Atlanta (Ramirez)(-$115) OVER NEW YORK (LEITER)

Al Leiter has not had much success against the Braves in the past. In his last 21 starts against Atlanta, Leiter is 5-10 and his team is 6-15 in those games. Horacio Ramirez has been pitching very well, in his last three starts he is 3-0 and has not allowed more than 3 earned runs in those starts. Atlanta feasts on left handed pitching, posting a record of 11-1 against lefties this season. Al Leiter is also only 9-18 after allowing one or less runs in his last start over the last three seasons and he is 3-11 when pitching on a Sunday, where the Braves are 8-0. Look for the Braves to take this one!

5 STAR: ST. LOUIS (TOMKO)(-$155) OVER Pittsburgh (Fogg)

The Cardinals try to avoid being swept at home today by the Pirates, and I look for them to get the job done and avoid the sweep. The Pirates have not swept a three game series at Busch Stadium since May 27-29, 1991. Pirates starter Josh Fogg is 1-3 with a 9.15 ERA in four career starts against St. Louis. The Cardinals' Brett Tomko has the second best home ERA in the National League (2.10) despite being 0-2 in five starts at Busch Stadium. Home favorites with a money line of -110 or higher that are outscoring their opponents by 0.5 or more runs per game on the season, after scoring 4 runs or less runs in three straight games are 134-55 over the last 5 seasons. Look for the Cardinals to get the win here!

    Good luck,

    John:

Atlanta has all kinds of trouble against Leiter in the past. He is 7-9 lifetime against the Braves with a 2.79 ERA. I like your pick but am just bringing out another statistic.

    Good Luck

      Buzzer Beater......

Your are right, he has a low ERA against the Braves, but they always seem to find a way to lose. I have not been impressed with Leiter this season, and this Braves offense that is so explosive this season should be able to get to him. Leiter got the win in his last start, but he was like 3-2 to 16 batters. I think he gets hit hard today. Thanks for bringing out that stat though, I'm sure there were other that were thinking the same thing.

Runs AVG OBP G AB H EB HR
        Lefty Starters 7.0 0.310 0.416 12 423 131 55 21

The above are the stats that I like for the braves. Against Lefties they are dominant. they have an 11-1 record against lefties and their offensive numbers are huge.

I don't look much at pitchers past performances against certain teams unless they are in the same year. Al Leiter was a much, much better pitcher in the past than he is now.

AL LEITER vs. ATLANTA since 1997
LEITER is 5-10 when starting against ATLANTA with an ERA of 3.26 and a WHIP of 1.262.
His team's record is 6-15 (-11.1 units) in these starts. The UNDER is 11-9. (+1.4 units)

            EZ,
I think you had the Phils over the Expos yesterday with the same two pitchers. The Phils won it today. Did you stay on them and not post it or did you back off of them today.

No, I backed off of the Phillies today, should have still played it though. I have a superstition about picks that I have that are rained out, I usually back off of them.
