Thursday's List of 13: College hoop ramblings........
        13) According to Sagarin Ratings in USA Today, top three leagues in country are: 1) Big 11, 2) Big East 3) ACC.

        12) Georgia Tech is lowest-ranked ACC team, and they're just 105th in country, so no easy outs on Tobacco Road.

        11) George Washington is in the NCAA's, but unless another team wins the conference tournament, thats it for league that has expanded, but not gotten stronger.

        10) If I wasn't old enough to remember Mickey Davis playing for Duquesne (and the Bucks) I'd wonder what the hell Dukes were doing as a Division I team. There was a rumor that Bob Huggins might be headed there, which would shake things up an awful lot, but until that happens..........

        9) DePaul has played toughest schedule in country this year, up until this point.

        8) Sleeper alert: Winthrop is ranked 63rd in Sagarins.

        7) My alma mater, Albany, is only America East team that has winning record overall; they're #166 in Sagarin, but this is the league whose teams are 0-13 vs teams in Sagarin Top 30.

        6) Penn wll jog in Ivy League, primarily because the #2 team in Ivy is Harvard, ranked 169th, although Yale will probably wind up finishing second in that league.

        5) Missouri Valley Conference has six teams in top 45. Wow.

        4) SWAC has no teams over .500; Southern, at #207, is the #1 ranked team in that league. Central Connecticut is ranked 175 with an 11-7 record, best team in Northeast Conference.

        3) Bucknell is ranked 32nd; if they beat Northern Iowa in the Bracket Buster, it could give them enough juice to get at-large bid, should they falter in Patriot League.

        2) Florida's schedule is ranked 258th. Thats out of 334.

        1) I seriously question how John Calipari can keep Memphis sharp enough to make serious run in March, playing all these stiff teams in C-USA. UAB is formidable, UTEP isn't bad club but no one else in league, except maybe Houston on its best day, can even come close to Memphis.

                NFL Super Bowl analysis

I like the Seahawks to beat the spread in the Super Bowl. Here are ten reasons why I think Seattle is very live dog.

-- Seattle plays its games on artificial turf, Steelers grass. This is the first-ever Super Bowl on FieldTurf.
-- Holmgren has won Super Bowl, Cowher hasn't.
-- Seattle has only two players in this game who played on Super Bowl champ (Wistrom, Jurevicius).
-- Seattle doesn't use the shotgun, while most teams the Steelers play did; shotgun formation gives defensive ends a target to rush, while a dropback passer makes it little more vague for the rushing DE.
-- Seattle is #1 seed, Steelers #6. I know the AFC is a better conference, but a #6 is favored by 4.5 points over a #1 seed? I don't think so.
-- Hasselbeck is the more experienced QB. Maaybe not the better QB, but he has been through more.
-- Seattle hasn't lost a game that counted since Week 4. Steelers were 7-5, at one point.
-- The line is inflated because Steelers are public team, a team with national following. Seahawks, along with Jags, are most obscure teams in whole NFL.
-- Jim Fassel, offensive coordinator of Baltimore, was a backup QB at USC with Holmgren; his Ravens play the Steelers twice a year, and they've done alright- they were 16-38 on 3rd down vs Steelers this yr, with awful QB's. These guys share ideas, and you can bet Fassel has been in contact with Holmgren, sharing information.
-- Mike Holmgren didn't get doused with Gatorade after the NFC title game; this shows a maturity that Seahawks still had one more game to win, and this is the game.

Take these factors into account, and take the 4.5 points

Thanks for the info spark! from a Seahawk fan love it!

Here's some more food for thought regarding superbowl experience...

Wide receiver Joe Jurevicius is 1-1 (up with Tampa Bay in 2003, down with the New York Giants in 2001). Defensive tackle Chuck Darby also won with the Buccaneers. DE Grant Wistrom went 1-1 with St. Louis. Punter Tom Rouen was 2-0 with Denver. Center Robbie Tobeck lost in his only appearance, for Atlanta in 1999 against Rouen and the Broncos.
                              Control what you can control...
