Thursday's List of 13: Random facts and thoughts.........
        13) Mike Holmgren was high school teacher/coach for dozen years, after he got out of USC.

        12) One of Holmgren's grandfathers was a commandant at West Point.

        11) Manhattan, Maryland both lost their top scorer to grades Terrapins responded better than Jaspers did, winning easily at Georgia Tech, while Manhattan got waxed at Rider.

        10) It is a bad idea to trade for an insane person, something Sacramento Kings are about to learn first-hand.

        9) Exactly what changed Wednesday that made Kings want to take Ron Artest, after he said he didn't want to go there?

        8) Steelers are the "home team" for Super Bowl, but elected to wear white road jerseys anyway, since they won three games in row on road during playoffs, all in white. Interesting, since Steelers won black in four other Super Bowl appearances.

        7) 2005 was warmest year in our country in over a century.

        6) Boston College won at Chapel Hill Wednesday, despite an accident Tuesday that saw their team bus hit a cyclist, killing him. Everyone on the bus was questioned by police about what they saw, but only coaches actually saw the collision.

        5) The 20th season of Arena Football begins this week, with NBC and FSN televising games. 18 teams that the field, with new teams in Kansas City and Utah. Danny White is coach of the Utah franchise.

        4) Here is how thin the line is between winning and losing; at Arizona State, the Sun Devils are 1-8 halfway through Pac-10 season. Had Ike Diogu not gone pro a year early, guaranteed they'd be a top 25 team. Same with Wake Forest, Chris Paul.

        3) College basketball is guard-dominated game; teams like Wake Forest have talent, but no point guard and they have a lot of trouble trouble winning. Teams like North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State, who graduated all their starters, are starting to feel pain of having whole new team.

        2) It is generally assumed that Rick Adelman is done as the Kings' coach, which may now be good news for him, with the trade for Artest going through late Wednesday.

        1) Knicks got roasted when they passed on Artest in draft and selected 7-foot tall Frenchman (Frederic Weis) who never played in NBA; turns out they were only half-wrong, because Artest is wacky, and they must have known that.
