          Baseball,

I could not agree more in 66 over Gretzky...It is NOT a swipe at Gretzky and not taking away anything from Gretzky; but I've always believed we will never see another Ali, Jim Brown, Jordan, and Lemieux

Mario just had so much more physical tools than Gretzky...They were both scoring machines...I can give the edge to Gretzky as being the better scorer, but that's a big big big maybe...Mario averaged OVER 2 points per game!!! That is a number that WILL NEVER be seen again...That number is amazing...Hockey is a low scoring sport by nature, BUT EVERY TIME Mario was on the ice his team would at least score two goals per game...Everyone looks at Gretzky's total points, but Mario was hurt half his career...When both were on the ice, Mario averaged more points per game than him

But, the difference factor to me is; there was no comparison defensively...Mario was 6'5, 220lbs and very strong and quick...He had a phenomenal reach...and Mario was by far (no one even a close second) the best short handed player in history...No one could kill a power play the way he did...Bobby Orr was great also, but even Orr said that's what made Mario the best ever...Mario's defensive skills were as good as his offensive skills...No doubt, it shortend his career as well...During the playoffs the Penguins depended so much on Mario for his defense that it took a wear and tear on him..Paul Coffey played both with Mario and Wayne..When they asked him who is better, he said he won't answer that question...They said, "why"...He said, "Mario is not human. He has eyes in the back of his head and has at least four arms"...Mario will never get the respect that Gretzky got cause Mario was the opposite of being an ambassador for the game...Wayne was great for the game as he took the responsibility being the ambassador...But, Mario constantly put down the league and Gary Bettman...He said the NHL was nothing but thugs...The league turned against him...They never supported him nor the Pens...He was one superstar that NEVER EVER got calls from the refs...Opposing teams constantly beat him up while NO ONE was allowed to touch Wayne...One also has to factor the fact Gretzky played on the greatest team ever and Mario started with the Pens...Also, for most of Gretzky's prime years the Russians weren't allowed in the NHL...The Russians were allowed to enter in 1987, which were Mario's prime years...Stan Savern to this day says, "the only reason the Russians were allowed to the NHL was because of Mario and that Mario was embarrassing the league and making it look bad. The league knew the Russians had the speed and the talent to make the entire league a show besides Mario. You're not supposed to be 6'5 over 220 pounds and score 199 points with the Penguins"....I thought that was an interesting point...It is from a Pittsburgh writer, but still interesting...I think the best evers go in this order; Mario, Orr, Gretzky

I could not have said that better myself!!!!

Gretzky played on a team so great that they won the Cup with-out him in 1990 - imagine that!!!

Mario was a freak of nature..........as Harry Neale, a Canadian broadcaster stated when Lemieux scored during the final game of the Stanley Cup Finals against Minnesota

"ITS LIKE TRYING TO CHOP DOWN A TREE WITH A TEENY WEENY HOCKEY STICK"

Scotty Bowman said Lemieux was the greatest of all time - - he often said it seemed like Lemieux was playing with little boys on the ice

Well another winning night but I am disappointed...Very..Didn't get a chance to capitalize 2nd half for the NBA...It was the perfect opportunity to try a middle...The perfect line and here I was in space...You snooze, you lose...But, still a 3-1 NBA night which runs it to a 13-3 run...LIke I said, every night should be a winning night in the NBA this late in the season...GLTA

Was VERY surprised you didn't go after that middle. I know you don't want the praises but a nice NBA run. Makes up for bases for the week.Again, anything not in the negative is good. Good luck for the new week!!!!
