The Cardinals came through last night with a 5 STAR winner as they shutout the Pirates 6-0 to give us a 1-0 (+5 unit) day. These are my plays for Sunday.......
5 STAR: HOUSTON (MILLER)(-$155) OVER Chicago (Zambrano)
A good matchup here for the Astros. Wade Miller has pitched well against the Cubs, going 3-1 in five career starts. Carlos Zambrano has not had any success against Houston so far in his young career. In three career starts against Houston, Zambrano is 0-2 with an ERA of 6.48. In his only start at Houston, he allowed 7 runs in just 2 1/3 innings. Wade Miller is 8-1 in home games versus teams outscoring their opponents by 0.5 or more runs per game on the season over the last 3 years. Zambrano is 0-6 versus National League teams scoring 4.8 or more runs per game on the season in his career and he is only 4-12 when pitching in day games. Also, Wade Miller is 6-0 in his career when pitching on Sundays. The Cubs are only 1-7 as a road underdog this season. Look for the Astros take this one.
3 STAR: Philadelphia (Myers)(+$110) OVER MONTREAL (VAZQUEZ)
This should be a great pitching match up between Javier Vazquez and Brett Myers. This is Myers first start against the Expos, so I give the Phillies a slight advantage due to the fact that Montreal has yet to see Myers stuff. Vazquez is 0-6 in home games versus teams outscoring their opponents by 0.5 or more runs per game on the season since 1997. The Phillies are 11-4 when playing a team with a winning record this season and they are also 6-1 in road games versus a starting pitcher whose ERA is 3.50 or better this season. I look for the Phillies to take this one.
