Monday's List of 13: Nothing like a Monday off in January
              13) If you had to do the '04 draft over again, in what order do you think Manning-Rivers-Roethlisberger would go now?

              12) I have started muting announcers during games, listening to music while I watch, but Dick Enberg on a big game is not getting muted, even though he called Nick Harper's incident "an accident" when authorities had said exactly the opposite.

              11) Bears had allowed one TD on their opponents' previous 49 drives at Soldier Field, before Carolina went 60 yards in 2 plays to start the game. What a performance by Steve Smith, who torched Lovie Smith's defense in OT at St Louis two yrs ago, when Carolina upset the Rams in playoff game.

              10) Tony Dungy is this generation's Chuck Knox; very solid coach, good person, and a poor record in playoff games.

              9) Colts were first team to ever be 13-0, then not win a single playoff game. '67 Colts were 11-0-2 going into last week of the regular season, and didn't make playoffs, losing 34-10 in LA to George Allen's Rams; both teams finished 11-1-2, and LA won tie-breaker and went to playoffs.

              8) Lebron James is best player in NBA; he makes other guys better players.

              7) Ruben Patterson of Portland has missed seven of his last 8 foul shots; how is a perimter player at the pro level that bad a foul shooter?

              6) Zydrunas Ilgauskus of Cleveland wears #11 because as kid his idol was Arvydas Sabonis, the great center who played in NBA after his prime.

              5) Two New Mexico Lobos went over 1,000-point career mark during Lobos' 77-70 loss at Wyoming Saturday. Odd that two guys would hit that milestone in same game.

              4) Towson State is much-improved team under Pat Kennedy; at 4-2 in CAA, winning their last three games while scoring 96.3 ppg in those games.

              3) UCLA is 10-2 in last dozen games decided by 4 or less pts.

              2) This is a sad statement, but I think it is true; the best thing that could have happened for minority football coaches was if the Bengals, Bears or Colts had won the Super Bowl, since they all have minority head coaches. They all lost at home in the playoffs, and that will hinder the hiring of minorities, at least in this off-season.

Hiring coaches is a copycat business; teams try to follow a blueprint of other successful organizations. While it should not have any effect on anything, to say it doesn't is wrong.

              1) It is easy to pile on Peyton Manning today; it is nature of a QB to get too much credit, too much blame, but take it easy. Distractions are poison to a football team, and no team had more off-field issues than the Colts in recent weeks, even the day before the Pittsburgh game. Laying it all on the QB is the nature of the beast, but that doesn't make it fair, or right.
