    NFL playoff analysis
The home teams in this round have a huge advantage, as they didn't play last week, while visitors all had to win a playoff game (three of four also played away last week).

Washington @ Seattle- Seahawks' loss in Week 17 was first for them since Week 4 OT loss at Raljon, when Redskins booted FG in extra session to win 20-17, loss that left Seattle at 2-2. Skins were 13-18 on third down in that game, outrushed Hawks 141-119, but gained just 120 total yards last week, scoring defensive TD and a TD on 5-yard scoring drive after INT. Seattle hasn't won a playoff game in over 20 years. Redskins on road for third week in row; this is tough spot for them; they're 2-1 on carpet, winning at Dallas, St Louis, losing at Giants. Seattle is 8-0 at home this year.

New England @ Denver- Brady has never lost playoff game, and he is getting points from Jake Plummer; interesting game. Denver beat Patriots 28-20 on this field in Week 6, outrushing Patriots by 178-89, outgaining them 432-388. Patriots had 7-yard advantage in field position, but Broncos has two TD drives of 80+ yds, and raced to 21-3 halftime lead. Shanahan hasn't won a playoff game since Elway retired; they won last four games, even winning at San Diego in meaningless Week 17 game. Patriots won five of the last seven road games; they failed to cover last three as a dog.

Pittsburgh @ Indianapolis- You're going to get lot of emotion from Colts' squad that was replay reversal away from losing last three games after 13-0 start. Colts beat Steelers on Monday night in Week 12, 26-7, outrushing Steelers 127-86, scoring three FGs and TD on four drives that started in Pitt territory. Total yardage in that previous game was 366-197, Colts. Pittsburgh allowed a 66 yard completion on second play of game last week, but Palmer was hurt on play, yet Steelers still trailed 17-14 at half.; hard not to imageine Colt receivers doing similar damage. Steelers lost the game after that Monday night loss, then won last five leading up to this game. Cowher won first road playoff game in five tries a week ago- this is fourth Steeler road game in last five weeks.

Carolina @ Chicago- Delhomme threw two INTs to left early in a Week 11 loss at Chicago, setting up Bears to score 10 points on drives that totalled eight yards of offense, and that was that in 13-3 Chicago win, typical Bear football. Carolina won five of last seven games, but this is also their third week in row on road, and fourth in last five, but they won their last four road games. Fox won NFC title two years ago; one of playoff wins was in OT at
St Louis, where he smoked Lovie Smith's Ram defense for game-winning TD in OT. Then again, he won't have Jason Sehorn on field, like he did that fateful day in Jones Dome. Bears allowed one TD on their opponents' last 49 drives at Soldier Field. This game will be decided by what happens when Carolina has ball.

Sunday's List of 13: Lot of stuff going on this weekend...
                    13) It has rained 27 days in a row in Seattle; if I sold umbrellas for a living, I'd love it there, but otherwise, no thanks.

                    12) Memphis Grizzlies are 23-12, and no one says a word; this Jerry West guy might make it in the league, after all.

                    11) West Virginia was 20-38 on 3-pointers Saturday, raining 104 points down on Marquette. Mike Gansey was 8-11, all by himself. Pretty impressive.

                    10) Which underlines one basic point: In today's basketball, at any level, if you can shoot it and have even moderate skill in other areas, you're a marketable player.

                    9) Texas Tech had two players leave their program this week, including one who played 24 minutes a game, so he had to be pretty miserable to leave. Playing for Coach Knight can't be any fun at all, especially when the squad is struggling.

                    8) This was the first time since 1983 that UCLA-Washington game was played, with both teams ranked in top 25.

                    7) Princeton is 3-11, an unheard-of stretch of futility for this program. Saw them play Friday; not sure how they've won 3. They're really bad.

                    6) Someone explain to me how Saint Louis is in same league as UMass and St Bonaventure.

                    5) Colt CB Harper was stabbed in knee by his wife over the weekend; he is doubtful for today's game vs Steelers. Some people were meant to be apart; Harper had been charged with domestic abuse last June. Just get divorced, before someone gets killed.

                    4) Texas A&M lost 45-44 at home to Oklahome, and was 9-21 from foul line. Clemson lost 87-77 to Duke, and was 6-21. You play so hard, free throw shooting tends to suffer in games like this. Experience will help these underdogs in future.

                    3) All of a sudden, Knicks won six games in row. They'll be knocking each other over to get back on the bandwagon. It must be time for Isiah to make trade; things are going too well

                    2) The NFL continually dodges bullets with weather in these January night games; it is stupid to put 75,000 people on road at night at this time of year, but they never seem to get bad weather. Amazing.

                    1) I am happy for Seahawk fans who waited long time for their team to win a playoff game. It is good feeling when your team gets to this point. Now, though, with NFC title game at home,. they need to win. This chance doesn't come along that much.
