Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up the sports weekend....
        13) We mentioned that each of the four playoff games had a QB making his first career playoff start. If you bet against all four of those teams, you went 4-0 this weekend.

        12) CBS had to be rooting like hell for the Bengals, since the Patriot-Colt matchup would be ideal for them, but Pittsburgh sent the Patriots to Denver for a Saturday night game.

        11) Hug a Bengal fan today, if you know one; they need hug, after Palmer tears two ligaments on the second play of game, and Cincy loses to arch-rival Steelers, putting end to a great season for the Bengals. Now they have to wonder if they'll have Palmer for training camp next summer.

        10) The only two backup QB's to enter a playoff game, throw 15+ passes, and win game, were Earl Morrall (1970) and Drew Bledsoe (2001), so Jon Kitna was up against it Sunday.

        9) Assistant coaches on the teams still playing have to be bit conflicted, if they're intent on becoming a head coach, since they can't be hired until their season is over. The rule is dumb since it puts assistant coaches in a position to benefit from losing, like Lovie Smith did two years ago, when Rams lost in OT to Panthers, and Smith was quickly hired by the Bears.

        8) Baylor Bears play their first basketball game of season this Wednesday; they were banned from non-conference games as part of the punishment from the Dave Bliss era. Can't say they won't be well-rested, at least.

        7) Since when does Tennessee go 5-6 in football, but have an awesome hoop team? Bruce Pearl's Vols won their first SEC game at South Carolina Sunday, raining 3's and pressure D on the Gamecocks. They look like an NCAA team for sure.

        6) Herm Edwards was making $2 million a year with the Jets; he goes 41-47 there, and gets a four-year, $12 million contract with the Chiefs, a better team. How is this possible? The guy needed help just managing end-of-game issues, and he gets treated like he's a freakin' genius. What a country.

        5) Dick Vermeil had publicly campagined for Al Saunders to become Chiefs' coach; wonder if he will stay as coordinator with KC, or will he emerge as candidate for Rams' job, since he was receivers coach for the Super Bowl season in 1999.

        4) Vince Young entered the NFL Draft. As the old song goes, "The lure of easy money has a very strong appeal......" but where exactly will Mr Young get drafted? The Young/Leinart comparison will be interesting to follow.

        3) So Wake Forest is playing Duke, and hanging in there; it is 53-48 Duke, but Wake gets a breakaway for Trent Strickland, a senior, who for some reason, decides to reverse dunk. Bad idea; he backrimmed the dunk, Duke hit two treys in next 40 seconds, and school was out very quickly.

        2) West Virginia looked like death in surviving 57-53 win at South Florida, when they were favored; so of course, they go to Philly as underdog, and rally to beat Villanova 91-87, with Wildcats losing for first time this season. Some teams are just better when they're the underdog. Not sure why.

        1) The future of college basketball is becoming clear; 4-guard lineups with an athletic, 6-8 type big guy. It is a quicker game that is more fun to watch, plus all the big guys with any game at all go right to the pros, so it is out of necessity, but it also eill help keep the college game popular.
