Sorry, I didn't get to put up my thoughts on Vince before the foru m was locked (?).
Vince Young is a superb athlete, one of the best I've ever seen. His athletic ability is freakish when you look at his size/speed/strength. He runs through tackles and glides effortless. His effort last night should probably rank in the top 10 greatest performances in the history of college football.
All that said, I still think he is a bit of project at the QB position at the NFL level. That is what most of the pro scouts were saying prior to last night's game, and while his stock certainly rose last night, 1 game doesn't change what everyone thought. He has a bit of an awkward delivery, which has him throwing almost side arm, not the traditional overhand delivery wanted and needed at the pro level. Some of this can be offset b/c he has the prototypical NFL QB height, but still, this will be somewhat of an issue. I will promise you that whoever takes him will alter his throwing motion, hence the term project.
I live in Atlanta and have followed Vick from day 1. Inevitably people try to compare Young to Vick. Vick too was a project, and for that matter still is. He is still a below average passer, as I think Young is right now, and unfortunately Vick really hasn't gotten any better since he entered the NFL. The legs will eventually slow down b/c of age and wear and tear. Vick is always dinged and so will Vince if he runs the ball 10 times a game at the pro level.
In order for Vince to excel at the pro level he will have to improve on his passing, and that is something neither I, nor any of you can predict. Look at the top QBs in the NFL and tell me how many of them are scrambling QBs? Take a look at the teams that are in the playoffs and their QBs, and tell me how many of them are scrambler QBs?
I wish him the best though b/c he is fun to watch and seems like a pretty good guy.
